My heart goes out and my thoughts are with those in Japan or affected by the earthquake/tsunami/possible nuclear problem (jesus) ... for fuck's sake world. This is getting a little insane.

Fringe: Os )

I also watched my first House ep for quite some time.

House: Bombshells )

Random:

* Delighted to see that Troy won Fandom March Madness and Veronica got so close. :)

* I also saw the Smurfs trailer. Not linking because uh, yeah, it's that bad. NPH, I question your movie choices sometimes, I really do.

* I did however see the Super-8 trailer and that looks pretty sweet.

* As a follow up to the @MayorEmanuel Twitter feed thing. Rahm actually met the guy behind it (via a radio station so you know PR) and donated $5000 to a charity of his choice. Aww.

Now I get up to go to IKEA. Never been before. Wish me luck. It's on my 'things do to before leaving London' list. We don't have them in NZ. :P

Been talking with my parents quite a bit (mostly via FB chat) and wow. It keeps hitting me again, especially the CBD. I spent so much time there as a kid after school, and as an adult and some of my favourite parts of Chch are there and now ... not so much. Parents are fine, they have friends who have lost houses, but they are fine and almost have water now too. Dad's company have been helping store and deliver water and has said that the roads are just insane.

[livejournal.com profile] karenhealey posted this which tells some of the good news stories (well okay, more positive stories) from Christchurch in the form of a letter to ex-pats from someone in Christchurch. There's a vigil in London on Wednesday, about 1,000 people are supposed to be going. Definitely going to try and be there too.

Random link: What happened on the @MayorEmmanuel twitter feed on Chicago Election Day. Whoever did this is a genius.

I'd like to say I'm going to get out of the house today but honestly I'm only going to get so far as the supermarket to get brownie ingredients for desert tonight and then watch the Carling Cup final. C'mon Arsenal, one trophy would be nice and you're doing so well right now.

I couldn't help but look at the ratings, and yeah, I wish I hadn't. *sigh* I admit I don't know the ins and outs and the machinations of network TV but FOX's faith is going to have to go a long way, or they need to move it. Though you could argue that might make it worse if it doesn't improve up against less strong competition.

I'm thinking of entering a state of denial, sticking my fingers in my ears and not paying attention to them. It's depressing. This show is too good for that.

ETA: It's DVR ratings are apparently pretty good though. So ... that's something.

The Good Wife: 2x01 )

However, I did find this on the CBS merchandise website. Team Gardner and Team Florrick t-shirts? Really, CBS?! And they even look vaguely Twilight-y. *headdesk* Also um, who exactly is on Peter's side ...

10 episodes of Community down and I'm still loving it. (Following this and Fringe might be a problem come the end of the year. Community's ratings aren't any better).

On the job front, I have a job! For a month! It's something anyway. Admin-y stuff in Westminster (which is a pretty cool location, 5 minutes from the House of Parliament), and with the possibility that it might go longer. So that's at least something. ;)

Random link of cute: Panda cupcakes! Amazing.

Rahm left as White House Chief of Staff today. :( But they got him a dead fish! Brilliant.

Justin Timberlake and Jimmy Fallon do an awesome rap montage. I have been experiencing a growing level of respect for Justin Timberlake. It's interesting.

So, uh, hi, LJ, how are you? I'm good, kinda scared than in 4 weeks I'll be leaving Wellington for quite some time, but you know, okay, I guess. A freak out is imminent.

I haven't posted or really been around for the last couple of weeks. Was in Christchurch last weekend and the last few days have just been busy and insane. Have a free day today, well, kinda. I need to start sorting out my books into the store in Chch/give away or sell piles. Eeep. I know people who are very anti the book collection pruning thing, but I think it needs to be done every now and then. Let's hope its slightly more successful than pruning the comic collection, which I meant to halve (not as scary as it sounds, and I haven't read some of them in years) .... and let's just say, I didn't. Damn you comics!

I also meant to start this whole process a lot earlier, but spent last night watching State of Play (really not too bad, Russel Crowe, Rachel MacAdams <3, Helen Mirren all awesome, but I spent a lot of time comparing it to he mini-series) and this morning, well, I checked [livejournal.com profile] rahmbamarama and ended up in a spiral of video awesomeness that ended with lots of clips of the NBC White House special, and the fact that Rahm Emaneul has a photo of him kissing Stephen Colberts's cheek (see icon) in his office. It may have been a gag for the cameras, but does he really have that kind of time? Anyway, awesome.

So, yes book sorting now. Really. Hope you're all well.

Also, the Daily Show this week has been amazing. So many good bits (including them sending Jason Jones to Tehran, OMG) but the high point for me being ...

Napoleon!Jon and Duke of Wellington!John )

Dude, I love them so much.

One day I will really make the substantive posts I keep meaning to.

But today, LJ, I am here to tell you that Rahm Emanuel has been in my dreams for two nights in a row (and no, not like that, mostly). Too much [livejournal.com profile] rahmbamarama do you think? ;) I'm not complaining persay, I'm just amused. I hardly ever get fandom dreams (and interesting how the White House Chief of Staff is now a fandom).

I've been remembering my dreams a lot more recently actually, don't quite know what that's about.

Also, the Jon Stewart and Jon Oliver bit in tonight's TDS was pretty damn awesome.

Edit: Wow, it's been 10 days since I last posted. It doesn't feel like that for some reason.

So, as I tweeted, I caught the inauguration ceremony at 6am my time. It was, as many have said before me, pretty awe-inspiring. Two things that I haven't seen mentioned a whole lot which I really liked was Joseph Lowrey's benediction and John Williams composition (Yo Yo Ma rules!). I thought both were beautiful really.

I did really like the speech. Was it a little low on inspiration? Maybe. But a few of the lines were just amazing. I remember listening and being all, 'Yes, this, god it's good to hear a President say this.' <3

And then I lost power. ;) Somewhat alarming at first, but then we realised it was half the city, and happily it was back on within a couple of hours. Sadly, my work was completely unaffected. ;)

I seem to have a lot of inauguration links to share:

[livejournal.com profile] obama_daily has some amazing photos, I especially love the ones of the Obamas dancing but really they're all amazing. And then there's the photo of Obama and Denzel grinning at each other. <3 Not enough awesome in the world.

[livejournal.com profile] tzikeh also posted this awesome Rahm photo. I do get the love now, I do.

And then there is The Daily Show, including John Oliver randomly kissing male and female nauguration attendees. Yes, really.

Embedded below )

And semi related, Obama plushie with Blackberry. It's the plush Blackberry that makes this extra awesome. (Link gacked from someone on the flist I now cannot remember, sorry). He gets to keep his Blackberry in the White House too. I was geekily happy about that. Even if it is a special NSA version with crazy encryption on it, but you get why.

And I ... think that might be it.

Oh no, wait, there was this really cute Malia and Sasha picspam on the Huffington Post So cute. And Sasha gave her Dad a thumbs up after he said the oath!

It is slightly disturbing how many Obama photos have ended up in my 'Politics' folder over the campaign, and really, since I added [livejournal.com profile] obama_daily to my flist. I think they really have got to the point where they get a folder of their own.

Unrelated meme that I thought was cool (taken from [livejournal.com profile] michellek)

1. go to the fourth folder on your computer where you store your pictures,
2. pick the fourth picture in that folder,
3. explain the picture

My Actresses folder as it turns out )

Pondering staying up to see the Oscar nominations come in, just because it's kinda close already.

Also, have LJ really taken auto-complete off the Post page for tags because that was so useful. Grr.

Today has been very low-key. Cooked myself two meals (cooked breakfast and vege curry, go the vege market), enjoyed the sun and spent some time sorting out and tidying files.

Before last night, I had 30+ tabs open and had done for at least a week and a half. They changed, but there was always so many there. My laptop wasn't appreciating it (Firefox, I love you but you're a resource hog) and it might sound a bit odd, but I don't think my brain was either. It was always like I had something else to read/watch/comment on and I had a lot of other unsorted stuff like video/music/pics. So, I tidied and sorted, and I feel a little better. Not to say this won't end up happening again, of course, but I'm going to try and keep it a little more under control. It's a bit worrying how much of an effect my laptop habits have. ;)

Also, I bought a new phone yesterday. I have returned to the Vodafone fold but I got to keep my old Telecom number, and the phone is really kinda pretty. It has waaay better games than my old phone and even a version of Opera installed. I don't usually really have great geeky gadget love for cellphones, but this one might change that.

Anyway, random links of happiness.

Rahm Emmanuel and Stephen Colbert roast each other at a Spina Bifida charity event. OMG awesome. The video is a little shaky, but it is well worth a watch. They both get in some awesome calls, and Stepehen also has some brilliant lines about Dana Perino.

Also, there was this photo:

:D

Richard Hammond test drives an F1 car. Oh, Hamster. How gleeful this made him was awesome to watch and it's also amazing to see the forces that those cars apply on your body. Amazing machines.

And randomly, I seem to be developing a small Bones addiction.

I have said it before and will no doubt say it again, but David Boreanaz your powers of adorable should not be this high! Seriously! I also kinda adore Hodgins, Brennan and Cam. <3

*goes to watch another ep*
