It's been a weird week. I've felt unmotivated and blah, and I've also been getting recruitment calls, which is not a bad thing but they're offering to put my name forward for jobs that fit the long-term-slash-help-pay-for-my-trip-to-the-UK criteria but not the in-any-way-advancing-my-career criteria. I spent 2 years overseas doing blah-ish temp admin jobs and I'm over it tbh, but then .... what do I want to do for a job anyway? And fuck do I need to go back and study something? And then I feel guilty because I should feel grateful I'm in a position where I can get a job and yes, blah. Blah, I say.

Vent over.

TV! Hockey! Other distracting things!

Hockey:

I couldn't concentrate on much this afternoon with the truly ridiculous triple fucking overtime Rangers/Caps game going on. Really happy for the Rangers (Gaborik! Some form!) but hard not to feel for the Caps as well. Braden Holtby is a rock-star.

Hope the Flyers can come back motivated tomorrow after losing so badly to the Devils.

I have seen clips, but last night it came to my attention that someone had put the entire NHL 2011 All Star Game Fantasy Draft on YouTube.

Lots of heart-eyes. Lots. They're ridiculous people, and while I knew it happened it was great to watch the whole show and see how it really was everytime someone was picked by Team Lindstrom who wasn't Tazer they'd go for a reaction shot. Amazing. Staals and Patrick Sharp continue to charm me (as sort of does Rick Nash), and lol Ovie taking a picture of Phil Kessel being the last one picked. Also this is far, far from an original thought but holy fuck, Jeff Skinner's smile. Nope. I don't need reminding how old he is. I know. I know.

I open three tabs when I sit down at my desk at the moment. They are GMail, Twitter and ... nhl.com. I have also listened to the Marek vs Wyshynski daily podcast pretty much every morning. Yeah.

And a rec:

TV:

The Good Wife 3x21 and 3x22 )

Game of Thrones 2x05 - gets a little future book spoilery )

H50 2x20 and NCIS LA 2x20 )

I have not yet watched Fringe, or caught-up on Mad Men which sounds like it got interesting just as I thought I could let in lapse for a few weeks.

I also finished Avatar: The Last Airbender last week and oh, amazing, amazing show. All the feelings. I love them all but I have a special place in my heart for Zuko. That final scene with his sister .... yeah. Feelings.

Nearly the weekend. Fuck. Yes.
owlbeer: (tony coffee)
1. My weekend has basically been drinking with friends who are leaving the country (once in a cool bar in Soho, once in a bar in Shepherd's Bush aKa Little Australia), the internet, coffee and then our very successful but marathon-like Testing Extravaganza for the new code on AO3. Seriously, fandom, I really sort of love you. The people who came to help today were awesome. We got so much done. :D

2. I did watch the finale of Mad Men, though now I don't have a hell of a lot to say about it. I was a little more low-key than I was expecting, but still very good and it makes me very curious about next season.

3. I also saw The Social Network last Monday. It was pretty awesome. Not really spoilery, but a little bit of rambling )

I seem to be in Jesse Eisenberg place after finally seeing Zombieland last weekend. So awesome. His presence might also bump Cursed up on my Bad Movies Josh Jackson Has Been In But I Will Watch Anyway list, even though it is apparently atrocious. *sigh* The things I do. ;)

4. This Monday: Wall Street 2. Though I haven't seen the first, which started a whole conversation about my pop culture failings and being yelled at by my drunk friend about having never seen a complete Back to the Future movie (yes, yes, I know, I've seen most of one). She was quite incredulous and almost came over today to deliver the DVD to me in person. That's usually my role in my group of friends.

Amusingly, Casino is one of the movies i was told I needed to see, and it's on TV now.

5. Keith Richards is doing a singing for his book not this week but next at the Waterstone in Picadilly. If my temp job isn't extended, I could potentially go! To be honest, I'd really prefer I still have a job, but if not, it's omething to ponder because well, Keef. <3

6. I am more interested in the World Series than I had anticipated as if there is a short series, we get an episode of Fringe earlier! I have been informed by [livejournal.com profile] tangleofthorns that the Giants are the only acceptable choice, so go the Giants! ;)
owlbeer: (john sheppard laptop)
Mad Men: Hands and Knees )

This show = amazing. Seriously.

In other TV: Bones was eh with one exception ) and The Event was outright bad, but in a sort of 'I want to see how bad it gets' way.

Fringe:

1. More cast interviews. I haven't got through them all but the Josh one is worth watching (yeah, I would say that), but not because he's hilarious, this one is very straight-up, but because he spends 5 minutes talking just about Peter, not Peter and the love triangle. It's interesting, and also proves Josh can fanwank with the best of them about what Peter did at the end of S2. He almost sold me on his theory.

2. Bones and Fringe promo for this week's episodes. Bones, eh, but Fringe, guh. Vageuly spoilery rambling )

3. Fringe seems to have zapped my ability to read the word Bolivia as anything other than a reference to Olivia. I was just reading something and it took me so long before I finally went, 'Oh the fucking country!' *shakes head*

4. I was reading some reviews of 3x01 on other sites and um, there are some crazy people about in the comments. I mean I love Josh/Peter too people, but wow. There are crazy people on the internet, this really shouldn't surprise me.

Other:

1. Cute short film called 'Voices' with Sean Biggerstaff (yes, Oliver Wood!) and Laura Fraser (from A Knight's Tale and David Tennant's Casanova). I was linked at ONTD and it's pretty cool and oh god, that accent. I'd completely forgotten about the Sean/Oliver Wood thing I had after the early HP movies. (Well, the Oliver Wood thing started in the books, but the movies made it worse). My walking tour guide in Edinburgh sounded very similar and needless to say, it was a pretty amazing tour.

2. Singapore GP was pretty eh. I really think Alonso might run away with it and that would make me sad. Poor Jenson has scored okay in the last two GPs and is back to 5th, while Lewis has DNF-ed twice and is still 3rd. Fingers crossed.

I was meant to be finding out if I had to go into work at temp office this week or not, and no phone call. Damn. I really need those three days. Will have to email tomorrow.
owlbeer: (Iron man donut)
Do I need to start this with my traditional greeting oh 'haha, oh wow I should be in bed?' or do you think we can take it as read now?

Mad Men: The Beautiful Girls )

I really do love this show.

I've seen a few posts about what people are going to be watching this new (US) TV season.

Returning shows:

Fringe - Shocker. It's not Thursday yet, is it? Damn.
Bones- sort of depending on how I feel. I'll watch a few episodes anyway. Hodgins will compel me if nothing else.
Community - need to see S1 first but I'm definitely keen
Big Bang Theory - I keep forgetting to watch it regularly. Must remember. In general, I tend to find it a lot harder to keep up with comedies than dramas. Mostly I think because I don't watch too many of them.
Gossip Girl - now two eps behind, but curiosity will get the better of me. Also, Chace Crawford.

In terms of new shows: I'm interested in Boardwalk Empire and despite myself The Event, even though it is absolutely another FlashForward waiting to happen. I like watching things crash and burn. I also await to see what show fandom welcomes with open arms, because there will be one.

I need to catch up on White Collar at some point too. I stopped after the disappointing 2.02 and forgot to keep watching. Also, the Treme pilot is still unwatched. David Simon, self, David Simon. Watch. It.

And there's some sort of Merlin show on BBC at the moment as well. ;) So much TV, so little time. (I've heard Chuck is very good ... and four seasons old. Oy. Later).

RL wise, my interview today went well, I think. Don't think I said anything too horrendously stupid. There is a second interview (*sigh*) which hopefully I'll hear about tomorrow. Fingers crossed anyway. I really want this job like woah.

Now, to tell myself that now is not at all an appropriate time to start watching One Week.

I can also see me possibly getting interested in hockey this year. I blame this on conversations with my ex-workmate (huge Canadiens fan), my own curiosity, certain people on my friends list and more than one actor (yes, more than just the one you're thinking of, but to be honest, fair call) I like going on about it.
owlbeer: (Eric)
I have a fixed laptop! It's so pretty. The whole bottom case got fixed, so it's all new looking and I have my 'J' key back!

So, with a returned laptop, I could catch up on TV.

True Blood: Fresh Blood )

Mad Men: Waldorf Stories )

Mad Men: The Suitcase )

I don't have a Mad Men icon? Got to get on that.

Links of awesome:

XKCD wedding cake! That is awesome! I don't necessarily want the wedding, but can I just get the cake at some point?

Midichlorian Rhapsody You know Weird Al's version of American Pie about The Phantom Menace (sorry if I got it in you head), this is like that, but with video, and all three movies, and to the tune of Bohemian Rhapsody. So well done. <3!

I reblog the daily what blog far too often, but their links are often so good.

Random Fringe related speculation:

Peter-related, to the shock of probably no one )

Should post the fanmix tomorrow. Have the track-list sorted, just need the cover.

I have also started my mammoth Flickr catch-up (after having to renew my Pro account. Why must everything always be up for renewal when I don't really have money?) I'm only up to April! Why so many photos, self? I didn't realise I took nearly so many in Greenwich. Next stop, Hampton Court, I think.

I of course, was supposed to be doing something far more important today. It didn't go well.
owlbeer: (Peter smiling)
Work finished Monday. It was a pretty low-key last day, but nice in a way. Having leaving drinks on Thursday, which should be interesting, because I fly out to Belgium the next day. Thankfully not till 7pm, so hopefully I'll be fine. But I do have to navigate an Apple Genius appointment (laptop needs its trackpad fixed and it's best it goes away while I'm in Europe for a week and I won't miss it too desperately) and getting to Heathrow with clothes for a week on my back. Sounds fun.

My procrastination skills? Especially those in relation to employment. Still awesome. *sigh*

Fixating on the holiday really. Getting really excited about it now. Grand Prix! Amsterdam! Good coffee! Edinburgh!

I caught up on some TV:

True Blood: I Smell a Rat )

Mad Men: The Rejected and Mad Men: The Chrysanthemum and the Sword )

Comics

I also keep forgetting to mention that I finally finished Y:The Last Man! It's only taken me two years to read the last three trades. *headdesk* But I remained unspoiled which is a freaking miracle. In the end, it turned out a friend of mine owned them and when I was over at his house for a birthday party I yoinked them and read them on the train to and from Portsmouth.

*draws sparkly hearts around Brian K Vaughan* )

That was a good geeky birthday party actually. I ended up having a long fangirl-y conversation with someone there about Star Wars and Star Trek. Some of my friends have geeky interests but most of them lack the uh, dedication of a fangirl. It was awesome. :D

I also stumbled across Fuck Yeah Dick Grayson and rediscovered my Dick Grayson fangirl. <3 I do love the visual aspect that Tumblr has, but it's a different sort of fandom experience. I should expand on that at some point. Hmm.

Josh: (yeah, he gets a heading)

I've reached the 'going through the back catalogue of movies' stage. Urban Legend (the Blonde!Josh phase), Scream 2 (hardly in it really), Ocean's Eleven (any excuse to re-watch the poker scene, I love it so) and Shutter, which was the only one I watched all of as I hadn't seen it before. It was ... not as bad as I was expecting, but I would struggle to call it good. Josh and Rachel Taylor were gorgeous though, so on a shallow level, good movie. ;) Cruel Intentions is open in another tab, which I actually sort of love. Hi Ryan Phillipe. I will eventually get to his good movies, but they're harder to acquire.

I've also watched more Dawson's Creek clips than I'm comfortable with and yes, even one whole episode with no Dawson, and a lot of Joey/Pacey and yes, damn it, it was cute. *sigh*

You can imagine how unemployment is helping this.

I do have Fringe thoughts as well, but I think they can wait. *yawns*
owlbeer: (tony coffee)
Feeling a bit blah, but need to go out and be social in a bit, which might be interesting. Also need to decide quickly if I want to go to Portsmouth tomorrow to see the HMS Victory and the sea. The sea! I really want to get out of London for the day, but the weather is supposed to be sort of average and maybe it would be best to leave it for a better day. I think the sea is going to win me over though ... I really miss living on the coast.

Also, I should be getting excited about Belgium/Netherlands/Scotland but there might be strikes at a few UK airports that weekend including you guessed it, the one I fly from on the Friday night. *sigh* I cannot tell you how much I hope that gets worked out because my whole week trip depends on me being in Brussels, so if is a strike, I still have to get there, and I don't want to book anything too far in advance as a back-up and then have the strike get worked out and be out a lot of money. Heathrow closed. On a Bank Holiday weekend. I .... they've got to stop that surely? *headdesk* Things like this make me wonder why I came over, and no I don't really mean that, but still, it crosses my mind. Wellington seemed so much easier.

The most recent Mad Men episode was awesome. Awesome women FTW )

It's perhaps a bad sign that the last Sherlock episode is sitting paused about a third of the way through in another tab, isn't it? I feel like I should be enjoying this so much more, and it's not that I dislike it, it just wasn't holding my attention before. *shrugs*

Wow, I need to tidy my room, but I can't see that happening somehow.

And because it's been a while and that music meme doesn't seem to be happening:

Ask me my Top Five Whatevers. Fannish or otherwise. Any top fives. Doesn't matter what, really. And I will answer them in a comment.

Shower time now, I think. Yes.

Oh, one happy thing. I've been helping out with testing and the like for AO3, and there is a tutorial now up about running a gift exchange challenge that I wrote. :D

Random Josh Jackson link: sitting beside Big Bird being interviewed on Jimmy Kimmel. Seriously. That must have been so surreal. Josh just seemed incredibly amused.
owlbeer: (Peter smiling)
My day could have been better (although there was Guitar Hero at the end - "Plug in Baby" is hard to play, dude), so I move on to fannish ramblings.

1. Thoughts on some recent interviews with the Fringe cast - spoilery for S3 )

I have a Peter and Tony Stark (potentially Peter/Tony Stark) fic idea rattling around my brain. Mmm. Also, a possible fanmix. No vid ideas yet, but I would say give it time. ;)

2. Joshua Jackson did Daily Show interviews in the early 2000's - I don't think it would be exaggerating to say these were extremely relevant to my interests )

Also, I mentioned that this crush could only get worse if I learned he played the piano in that episode of Fringe. Apparently, he motherfucking did. I give up. Seriously.

I will not watch actual episodes of Dawson's Creek as a result of this. No. Clips, yes. Bad horror movies Josh has been in, maybe, but Dawson is far too irritating.

3. I watched the first two episodes of Sherlock ... and I liked it, mostly. The first one was good, and I loved Martin Freeman as Watson but the second one dragged badly. I was going to put off the third one, but having seen so many posts about it on my flist of a !!! variety, I might bump it up the list of watching priorities.

4. Still have Mad Men to watch. True Blood, I know what happens, and still eh. I'm sure curiosity will get the better of me, but at the moment, there are other things that I'd rather watch. Like a ridiculous amount of Josh Jackson clips on YouTube.

5. I also really want to see Batman: Under the Red Hood. The trailer looked interesting.

6. Still haven't seen Toy Story 3. Must rectify.

Haha, oh god, I meant to go to bed early.
owlbeer: (Peter smiling)
Had a good weekend, the highlight of which was seeing Henry VIII performed at the Globe. So, so cool and really good performances. However, while I was glad to be standing and in the action, I would pay for a seat next time, because I'd been out all day and that was a lot of standing.

Did very little on Sunday. Did watch the Hungarian GP though, which was exciting in places, but oh, it was not McLaren's day. Also any shred of fannishness I had towards Michael Schumacher has gone after that move against Reubens. To be honest, I cannot remember why I was a fan in the first place.

I also continued on my path of insanity. As a indication of such, I present this list:

Things Joshua Jackson has done that have in no way, not at all, helped my somewhat ridiculous crush on him: a combined list/picspam )

Also, Josh aside, and talking of Fringe more generally, I seem to be shuffling around on Peter/Olivia.

For example, I don't like Coldplay, at all really, but part of me really does like this Peter/Olvia vid (Spoilers up to the end of S2). Coldplay 'shipper vids ... oh, brain. *shakes head* (To be fair, this one of their songs I find the least annoying). I think it has a lot to do with the prettiness that is Josh and Anna, and Josh's ability to have chemistry with pretty much everyone and everything. (I know Josh is not a big Peter/Olivia 'shipper and doesn't really want to do the romantic lead thing - fair enough, he's sort of done it to death in Dawson's Creek - but he's just so good at it).

I don't know. Like I said, I'm shuffling.

Mad Men: Christmas Comes But Once a Year )

True Blood to watch. Probably will before I go to bed, but I'm not expecting great things.

Also this happened before:

Flatmate: We have a new stove. Yay we're not going to die. (We had a gas leak, a small one, from the stove, long story).
Me: Yes, we're not going to die ... today ... caused by a gas leak. Wow, that got a little depressing. Sorry.

I really should catch up on the music meme.
owlbeer: (Eric)
I went to a Andy Zaltzman gig tonight! It was an Edinburgh preview show in a pub in Clapham with an audience of maybe 50 people at the most. So cool. He was using us as much as a focus group as an audience, which is amusing as the show is on in a week. Overall, I really enjoyed it. He wandered in places but the way he told the story of having to deliver his own son was hilarious, even though I'd heard it on The Bugle before. Thought really hard about saying hello after the gig because it would have been so easy to, but didn't. Kinda wish I had now. Ah well.

Other than that, Fringe obsession rolls on. Pondering fic. It was also distracting me from work and I in no way updated my Fringe S2 thoughts posts from a work computer this afternoon. Nope, not at all.

I also have a rampant speculative thought about S3 that I can't chase away )

Tangentially related: Funny-or-Die.com video shot during ComiCon of Pacey-Con 2010 starring Josh. Hilarious.

Mad Men was pretty good, but I have nothing really to say about it.

True Blood was, well I really need this show to be the Eric Northman Hour )

I thought there was something else, but I can't think of it right now. Oh, I should sleep.
