So, as I tweeted, I caught the inauguration ceremony at 6am my time. It was, as many have said before me, pretty awe-inspiring. Two things that I haven't seen mentioned a whole lot which I really liked was Joseph Lowrey's benediction and John Williams composition (Yo Yo Ma rules!). I thought both were beautiful really.

I did really like the speech. Was it a little low on inspiration? Maybe. But a few of the lines were just amazing. I remember listening and being all, 'Yes, this, god it's good to hear a President say this.' <3

And then I lost power. ;) Somewhat alarming at first, but then we realised it was half the city, and happily it was back on within a couple of hours. Sadly, my work was completely unaffected. ;)

And semi related, Obama plushie with Blackberry. It's the plush Blackberry that makes this extra awesome. (Link gacked from someone on the flist I now cannot remember, sorry). He gets to keep his Blackberry in the White House too. I was geekily happy about that. Even if it is a special NSA version with crazy encryption on it, but you get why.

It is slightly disturbing how many Obama photos have ended up in my 'Politics' folder over the campaign, and really, since I added obama_daily to my flist. I think they really have got to the point where they get a folder of their own.

Pondering staying up to see the Oscar nominations come in, just because it's kinda close already.

Also, have LJ really taken auto-complete off the Post page for tags because that was so useful. Grr.

The last week has been a bit of a bust, especially Monday which needed an emergency application of beer, but today hasn't been too bad, and I only have one more day of work as I'm heading to Christchurch tomorrow night.

Also, I have been a little obsessed with the Olympics, or as much as I can be when I have to rely on TVNZ's streaming coverage (which is to be fair pretty good, if a little dodgy on Firefox) as we have reception issues with TV1, but I shall be at my parents this weekend and they have no such issues. \o/

I need to go and check out the footage from the 200m men's butterfly as Moss Burmester ended up fourth after leading for a while in a race with Michael Phelps in it. Nicely done, sir. I am a bit gutted he didn't get a medal though, as it sounds like he deserved it, but then he is the first NZ swimmer to get into a final since 1996, so he'd done well already.

The thing I love most about the Olympics is the chance to see sports like athletics, swimming, gymnastics, weightliftig and fencing get some TV coverage. I'm just not as attracted to the team sports which get a lot of coverage here anyway.

The Guardian (yes, really) does Bush LOLCATS. Overall they're kinda average, but this one is hilarious.

I also finally saw Sweeney Todd, and it was awesome. It might be my favourite Tim Burton movie, and Johnny Depp's performance was pretty damn amazing. The cinematography was also stunning. <3!

Somedays I'm not sure whether to love Google or be scared of them, today it's love.

I'm really, really happy about this cast annoucement for Season 2 of Heroes (possible spoilers in article)

Dude. I know it's on Fox and he's on Fox, but Ryan Seacrest to host the Emmys. Really? Ugh.
