On the recommendation of what felt like half my flist, I watched White Collar.

OMG awesome! )

Last week, I saw Metropia at the London Film Festival, which also happened to be the UK premiere. No Alex, (I would have posted something a hell of a lot earlier had there been), but Tarik Saleh was there and did a cool Q&A afterward. He's an interesting guy. He asked to take a photo of the audience, which was cute.

The movie itself was really cool. The animation style was unlike any I've seen, and the story line was an interesting dystopian sci-fi. The voice work was also excellent, especially Alex, but I would say that. ;) Interesting to hear his voice alongside his father's.

Dr Who repeats on BBC Three for the win. "Journey's End" is on, which is well, insane, but I love it so, and it still makes me cry apparently. Random spoilery thought )

The trailer for Green Zone (Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass's newest film) looks pretty good (and as Film School Rejects said looks a little like Jason Bourne meets the Iraq War), but uh, it's based on Imperial Life in the Emerald City? Unless the book changes a lot in the last third I haven't read yet, I'm going to assume its a quite a loose adaption.

Job search: Ongoing. Bound to step over the Hospitality Line soon. *resigned shrug*

Edit: TV is being nice to me. First Dr Who, now Ocean's Eleven. I still love that poker scene an unbelievable amount.

15%?! All I'm seeing is incoherent posts of glee, and I must know why. I must!

Also, all this weekend, every time I've gone outside it's started raining harder, and every time I go inside it stops. I think someone is sending me some sort of message. Also, apparently Wellington discovered Winter. This isn't wonderful news, but really, it was starting to get a little worrying there for a while. All this, sun, in June. WTF?

However, now I have to go back into it, and yes, it's raining. Awesome.

Oceans Thirteen review, in short )

No George icon either. For shame, self. For shame.

Ian McKellen is performing in the RSC production of King Lear in Wellington in the middle of August. How did I not know about this sooner?! Why did I have to learn about it from the Dominion Post?!

Anyway, the tickets are rather crazily priced (but considering this is the RSC, probably not that insane) but ... I think I really have to go. I mean, I sincerely doubt Ian McKellen will be back here doing Shakespeare for a while, possibly not ever again.

Ian McKellen on stage, performing Shakespeare.

Yeah, I have to go. Even if I see it by myself. I love you credit card!

In other squeeful news, on a whim I downloaded a few vids last night. I used to be really into vidding, and even tried to do a couple of my own back when CSI and WaT were my main fandoms (wow, that was a while ago), but I haven't regularly watched them in ages. Oh, vids!

I especially loved AbsoluteDestiny's vid I Enjoy Being A Girl which features Buffy, Sydney, Veronica, Zoe and Kara kicking ass. All characters I adore. I've watched it quite a few times since last night and just, it makes me grin.

Also, it might be that it's the fandom that's bringing me the most joy right now, but I just adored [livejournal.com profile] dualbunny's Dr Who vid A Place in Time. It's a transition vid between Nine and Ten. It's short, but just made me so happy.

And okay, one more Dr.Who vid. I watched this one on dear old YouTube a while back, and it's just, the smiles and the angst and the Doctors and Rose, and I know it's set to Snow Patrol's 'Chasing Cars' which is a song that really irritates me normally and has had so many vids done to it, but it works here so well. I will admit, it's possible that I am just a sap, but you should watch it.

I need to find some more good Dr.Who vids. I'd be interested to know if anyone's done anything interesting with Martha.

Finally, I just felt like sharing this. It's Franz Ferdinad covering Gwen Stefani's "What You Waiting For" with just a little bit of Billy Idol and I'm enjoying it a lot right now. I possibly got this from someone on my flist, if it was you, thank you!

Now, off to buy Ocean's Thirteen tickets for tonight! George! Brad! Rusty! Danny!

I've spent most of the day laying in the sun reading, napping, or just randomly playing with my computer. This should have been an awesome and relaxing day, but alas, it was not. My brain is stupid.

I will eventually post about my trip to Brisbane, but this is not that post. Evidently.

However, on a quick fannish note, Ocean's Thirteen needs to be out here now, George Clooney and Brad Pitt should do interviews together all the time and the last two Dr Who episodes were awesome.

*toddles off to watch Dexter with chocolate and tea*

For a Monday, it's really been a surprisingly good day.

1. I saw the second part of the Helen Mirren Elizabeth I mini-series last night and for a while there I was wavering a little over whether it was as good as the first part, but in the end, um, yes it was. Helen Mirren rocked all before her, but I was surprised by how good an Essex Hugh Dancy played. Ian McDiarmid and Toby Jones as the Cecils were also really good. And randomly, Toby Jones was according to IMDb the voice of Dobby in CoS. I find that amusing for some reason.

2. I know it's Oprah and to at least some degree it's staged, but Julia Roberts and George Clooney interviewing each other on her Primetime Oscar Special was actually rather cute. That have some great chemistry, which is odd when you consider how little they had in Ocean's Eleven and to an even greater extent in Ocean's Twelve. Also, I admit to being a total sucker for George Clooney and Brad Pitt interaction.

Relatedly, I saw the trailer for Ocean's Thirteen and ... eh. I don't know what it is, but it left me feeling rather cold. Admittedly, it's only a teaser but this movie has no Tess, no Isabel and Al fucking Pacino and I have high hopes. (Okay, the end with George rolling his eyes is rather cool, and I do like that they included all 13 in it).

3. I'm not even watching the Oscar telecast this year. I feel kind of weird about it, but I have to be up early tomorrow (*looks at clock* no, really) and I figure the good bits will be on YouTube soon. In terms of the winners, I'm pretty okay with them. However, saying that, I have seen a grand total of one of the nominated 'best film' pictures and very few of the ones nominated in other categories. Inexplicably, I feel bad about this.

4. I finally got around to reading [livejournal.com profile] naominovik's Temeraire and I was impressed. Now I just need to track down the next two.

I just turned off my TV and heard someone singing in the distance. That someone? Mick Jagger.

I'm not a huge Stones fan, but it's still pretty cool that they're in Wellington tonight. My friend went to their concert in Auckland and loved it. I never realised how close to the stadium I actually lived.

I'm settling into the flat, my stuff is all here now (DVDs! *hugs*) and I spent a very pleasant Easter weekend hanging out with Mum who came up. My computer still has a few issues (needs a network card) but apart from that, it's all going along quite nicely. Books are in bookshelves, pictures are slowly being put on walls and DVDs are piled precariously high. I really should get a rack for them.

I watched Oceans Eleven again last night, and I still, after many, many viewings, can't get over the poker scene and all the Danny/Rusty. Oh, it's beautiful. Brad Pitt, George Clooney, suits, awesome conversations and long smoldering looks. Mmm, makes me happy. I need fic. It does make me a little bitter about O12 though, ah well, here's hoping O13 is full of Danny/Rusty goodness.

I'm also really in the mood for some dark, angsty post-show L/V. Or just any post-show L/V. Don't quite know why.

Bleh. I'm so incredibly blocked up right now. Damn colds.

Update:

I had another job interview today and I think it went pretty well and the place I'd work is awesome, but I won't know anything for over a week, which is frustrating, but that's the way these things work. I'm also looking at coffee-shop jobs for money, which I need as my temporary job has ended, but again with the waiting, which have I mentioned that I'm bad at? ;)

The flat situation is as it ever was unfortunately. My friend is really far too understanding. I've been staying with her nearly 7 weeks now. Fuck, 7 weeks. That's insane.

Fandom wise:

- I found a Serneity poster for $1 after walking into a video store on a whim. *glee*

- Armageddon - which is usually a fairly poor excuse for a fantasy/sci-fi/anime con in Wellington - has Jewel Staite and Summer Glau coming this year! I'll totally go, I only wish I had someone to drag along and share my geeky glee.

- Tess and Isabel-less Ocean's 13! *more glee* However ...

- I've missed three eps of GA and totally given up on Lost. *sighs*

Without A Trace: John Michaels )

Apple now have the trailers on their site avaliable to download in iPod playable Quicktime format. This makes me ridiculously happy as now I have the rather wonderful PotC2 teaser on my iPod, so I can watch it anywhere. Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley prettiness in my pocket. Oh, yes.

--

Something else that makes me very happy? Ocean's Eleven. I'd forgotten quite how much. I had a craving for it last night and oh how I love that poker table scene between Danny and Rusty. I love all the Danny and Rusty interaction but especially that scene. So, so much. Danny/Rusty = <3!

However, using this icon just reminded me of Rusty's haircut in O12. *wince* Why Brad, why?
