It's been a day of rather wonderful geekery.

I now have a DVD burner! Yes, I know, it's taken me long enough but I have one now, and I can watch DVDs on my computer whenever I like, instead of having to traipse down to the lounge to watch them and annoy my flatmates. I've been watching Sportsnight eps (love) this afternoon and I have a pile beside me that includes Heroes, The X-Files S3, Firefly and 'The Insider.' Mmmm.

Also, I picked up America: The Book for $25 because Unity Books were having a sale. Dude. If I had the available funds I could have gone crazy in that store. But still, Daily Show book! For $25! There is no bad there.

I also spent today discussing the war in Iraq, the New York Times, American history and why it's fucking ridiculous for Karl Rove not to testify under oath.

Good times.

Also, uh Stardust trailer. So, so awesome and pretty. I can't wait till this comes out.

I don't know why I'm up this early. Actually ... I do. It's a beautiful sunny day outside and Wellington has seen nothing close to sun for so long now, that I'm going to go for a walk in it, maybe get a coffee, and sit and read my book for a while. It would figure that the one day I had planned the blob in front of the TV all day (mmm, Bathurst) it would be like this. Anyway, I'm going to try and enjoy some of it. :)

Also, I am totally, totally weak. I bought the BSG DVDs because the video store only had Disk 1 and the DVD store was open late and ... yeah. However, it is in fact the whole season DVD set, so that's something. I watched through to 'Home Part I' and uh, yeah. I'm enjoying it, not loving it, but definitely enjoying it.

I'll post some deeper thoughts later when I'm further through, but for now an observation: Everyone gets so much more awesome when they're in a scene with Starbuck ... it's like science. p

I spent a lot of my weekend watching DVDs with my flatmate. Last night we watched the rather unlikely pairing of '13 Going On 30' and 'Requiem for a Dream' and I was very impressed by the latter, which I hadn't seen before. And this afternoon we watched 'Closer' and the first disc of OC S1. *cough* As soon as we finished the first ep she said, 'well, now we just have to watch the next one,' and I just laughed and agreed. Damn show sucked me right back in. Marissa was even likeable in 'The Model Home'! 'The Debut' fell a little flat but, Anna! Sometimes I look at those DVDs and wonder why I brought them, but today reminded me why. For a while there, I actually really liked these characters. Hmmm. I wonder if I should get the S2 DVDs out and give it a full watch-through.

Continuing with the DVD theme, I've finally seen Kenneth Branagh's version of 'Much Ado About Nothing' which I've been wanting to see forever, and not just since I became slightly enamoured with Robert Sean Leonard. I ... liked a lot of it. Kenneth Branagh and Emma Thompson rocked, as did Richard Briers and Denzel Washington. RSL bugged me a little, and I'm not quite sure why, it might have been the character more than anything. Keanu ... well, the less said the better really but I've seen worse from him. Overall, I enjoyed it and I really should read the play.

I'm also thinking some rather unpleasant thoughts about the VMars season finale, which I really hope don't pan out. Really. But they're there now. Hanging around. *tries to swat them away*

However, I would just like to reaffirm my love for my iPod and it's abilities as a portable hard drive, meaning I could circumvent my computer issues and see the L/V clips from recent episodes. There was much glee.

Now, I really meant to tidy my room today.

I just turned off my TV and heard someone singing in the distance. That someone? Mick Jagger.

I'm not a huge Stones fan, but it's still pretty cool that they're in Wellington tonight. My friend went to their concert in Auckland and loved it. I never realised how close to the stadium I actually lived.

I'm settling into the flat, my stuff is all here now (DVDs! *hugs*) and I spent a very pleasant Easter weekend hanging out with Mum who came up. My computer still has a few issues (needs a network card) but apart from that, it's all going along quite nicely. Books are in bookshelves, pictures are slowly being put on walls and DVDs are piled precariously high. I really should get a rack for them.

I watched Oceans Eleven again last night, and I still, after many, many viewings, can't get over the poker scene and all the Danny/Rusty. Oh, it's beautiful. Brad Pitt, George Clooney, suits, awesome conversations and long smoldering looks. Mmm, makes me happy. I need fic. It does make me a little bitter about O12 though, ah well, here's hoping O13 is full of Danny/Rusty goodness.

I'm also really in the mood for some dark, angsty post-show L/V. Or just any post-show L/V. Don't quite know why.

Bleh. I'm so incredibly blocked up right now. Damn colds.

You know what more DVDs need? *

A historical subtitle track like the one on Kingdom of Heaven. It went through the movie telling you the actual history of the Second Crusade and which bits of the movie were based on fact and which they'd fictionalised. That's always what I want to know after watching a movie set in a historical period I don't know a lot about! (That's not that crazy, right?) I loved it Not that I wouldn't have gone to a book and looked it up myself, but it's still a great idea. I was geekily enthralled and impressed by how much was actually based on fact. I mean, it certainly wasn't perfect but I honestly expected worse.

It's not quite as good as I remember but the ending is well done and I still have enormous amounts of love for Jeremy Irons and his voice.

* obviously if they're historically based movies. An historical track on something like X-Men 2 would be somewhat out of place really. However, a track that related it to the comicverse might, but that would just get way too confusing. 'So then there was this time that he died ... except here when he came back ... but only if you don't consider this, which isn't considered main continuity anyway.'

Then I went for a walk (to return the KoH DVD) and ended up with the 4th season of 'Blackadder' from the video store. (As well as an ex-rental copy of Closer for $10!)

So good, so hilarious and that last episode still gets me. *sniff*

Hugh Laurie just cracks me up and also reminded me why I still find it amusing to think about the legions of people that think he's so hot. I mean, don't get me wrong I see the appeal with the stubble and the eyes and no doubt he's a fantastic actor, but you see him in things like Blackadder - which is the stuff I grew up seeing him in - and it just amuses me to think of what he is now with his legions of fangirls. Of which, in all fairness, I am one. :p

I don't have work till Friday. My one and only shift of the week. Most of me is happy but there's also a part of me that knows that I'm going to be spending at least one day this week whining to myself about how I'm not actually doing anything productive.

1. I am pretty obsessive about checking news websites, but I completely missed how dangerous Hurricane Katrina had actually gotten till I was reading last night on my flist about the possibility that New Orleans might actually be underwater if the hurricane hit it directly. I'm glad it hasn't come to that, but still, the amount of damange it has done is mind-boggling. Not only to New Orleans but also the rest of Lousiana, Mississippi, Alabama and what it did to Florida. Perspective check much. My thoughts are with anyone who has been directly, or knows anyone directly affected by it. I often say in response to all manner of things 'I can imagine' but in this case, I really can't.

2. Sports Night Season 2 )

3. Angel (Origin) and Without A Trace (Nickel and Dimed Part I) both had really strong eps this week. Desperate Housewives (Anything You Can Do) in my opinion pushed things a little too far, but Felicity Huffman is all sorts of wonderful.

4. My DVD buying frenzy has really got past the point of a joke, but it's interesting that my recent purchase of The OC S1 (it was on sale and I have no self control) has led to my brother watching 4-5 eps a day and not me - more because I've had other things I've been watching than because I haven't wanted to, but still. We sat down and watched 'The Televonela' tonight and I forgot how just plain entertaining this show could be. I also fell a little bit in love with Sandy/Kirsten and Seth/Summer all over again too. Mer.

5. I really want more Veronica Mars. C'mon Friday. I need to know.

Interview tomorrow. I'm strangely calm.

I really want Sportsnight DVDs right now.

*shifty look towards Amazon*

Edit: I am so weak *headdesk* However, I am a weak person who will have Sportsnight DVDs in 10-14 days. So, that's something I suppose.
