The Emmy nominations were kinda eh. Oddly enough, I find the huge list of nominations far more interesting, and have for the last few years, because it has the writing and directing awards and all the other little awards for shows I care about more. I am intrigued that Imaginationland is up against Family Guy's Blue Harvest, because while I do like Family Guy and especially that special (though Seth McFarlane, how were you so lucky to be sleeping with Eliza Dushku, are you that funny?), Imaginationland was genius. Pure genius.

However I do kinda wish I'd kept watching Mad Men now. I wonder if I start watching on Sunday again it will make that much of a difference. I have a strange thing for John Slattery. Yeah, I don't even know.

Also, on a post about the Watchmen trailer, it was pointed out to me that Watchmen is only $13 US on Amazon right now and I really mean to read it this year. I've tried once but kinda stopped hald way through (also see: V for Vendetta and From Hell, yes, I know). That's like $20 NZ dollars, maybe less. I think the cheapest I've ever seen Watchmen here is maybe $35, more likely $40. So, yeah. Also, the chances of me just ordering Watchmen is slim. ;)

On the topic of comic book movies, the Dark Knight hype is kidna insane. I will absolutely be seeing it, and I haven't seen a Nolan movie I haven't really enjoyed, but I remain a little wary of it all. However, I do think I'll track down a Batman Begins DVD sometime this weekend because it's been something I've been meaning to buy for ages. I also need to pick up, and I realise this is an odd comibination, 10 Things I Hate About You, because it's been too long, and I was linked to this which, just <3

Have quite a social weekend planned, which started with a beer and awesome Satay Kindgom (best and cheapest Malaysian in Wellington) with a friend who has just come back from overseas. However, I do also have to work for 4 hours. Damn.

Finally, Jack and Ianto seem to be making themselves at home in my brain, and John and Rodney are looking at them funny and bitching about having to make room.

Oh, okay one more thing. The Daily Show is back! \o/ And I've started more regularly watching Colbert Report clips now too. Much love.

Edit: Finally, I can edit this entry. LJ was being really annoying last night and only half loading. *glares*

Oh, internet I knew you wouldn't let me down.

The Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert and Steve Carell hug from the Emmys tonight/last night (depending what part of the world you're in). Much love. <3

I meant to go to bed like an hour and half ago. Facebook = crack.

So, I did end up taking the day off. Spent it mostly in bed, watching MASH or surfing the 'net (which included crying caused by MASH wikipedia articles. No, really). To be honest, I probably could have gone to work, I didn't feel completely horrible, but the day off has probably helped.

I also, you'll be thrilled to know, think I may have settled on Google Reader as my RSS feed reader. I've been looking around, and I do like that Google Reader is web-based so I can access it at home and ... other places, and I do read so many blogs, and forget ones that I mean to go back to, that I think a feed reader is probably a good idea. (Note: I have said this before).

Anyway, due to feed adding I ended up all over the net reading, including some fannish stuff:

Dr Who in time freeze for a year. Thankfully, they're talking about after S4 not S3, but that is interesting. Tennant and Davies can't go on forever, and who knows maybe it will just let them re-charge or something. And three specials is still something.

Also, David Tennant is going to play Hamlet for the RSC. Dude! That would rock! I think the chances of coercing them over this side of the world two years in a row is ... unlikely. Damn.

The ad that goes with that article is rather amusing. Cheap shot, but amusing. I also like how they've left question marks for the end of his tenure.

Hugh Laurie almost chosen to host the Emmys

That? Also would have rocked! Damn you, Fox. Though saying that, I am inclined to agree with one of the commenters that Hugh probably would have turned it down. Awesome as it would be, I can't really see him saying yes.

And no, I have no idea why I am obsessing about the Emmys host. I do understand why Fox chose Ryan Seacrest, annoying as I find him, and to be honest, I'm not even sure I'll watch this year (note: I have also said this before). Also, chances are NZ TV won't have it on anyway.

Somedays I'm not sure whether to love Google or be scared of them, today it's love.

I'm really, really happy about this cast annoucement for Season 2 of Heroes (possible spoilers in article)

Dude. I know it's on Fox and he's on Fox, but Ryan Seacrest to host the Emmys. Really? Ugh.

I'm sure there's many more pressing and important news articles I could have linked to, but there you go.

Take it as a given there are spoilers under all of these cuts.

Doctor Who: The Christmas Invasion )

Superman Returns )

Also, a rather belated reaction to the Emmy Nominations )

PotC2 and Doctor Who finale spoilers on my flist at the same time? Takes a lot of self control.

For a day in which I spent 9- 4:15 at work, it's been a good day. Work went fine, I spent an hour and half in Starbucks re-reading OotP and then I had a pleasant evening catching up with friends and playing D&D.

--

I still don't know if I'm going to get OotP read before Saturday at 11 as tomorrow is going to be a rather hectic day, but I'm going to try as I've really got back into it now. So much happened that I completely forgot about. George and Harry getting banned from Quiddtich for example. I completely forgot that ever happened.

Keeping with OotP; I was going to post my OoTP re-read thoughts all together (yes, I am taking notes), but I'm going to say it now because I realise I don't say it nearly enough. I go on about Sirius and Remus but I also really love Minerva McGonagall, so much. So very much. Her and Fred and George are just all sorts of wonderful. Also, I'm feeling more for Ron and Molly in this read-through. In fact, I almost feel like I owe Molly some sort of apology for what I thought when I read OotP last time. Yes, I know, fictional.

Related rec: On Hating Cats and Other Lies by Eudora Bragg. (Gen, with Sirius/Remus hints) Written for the [livejournal.com profile] reversathon and gah. Sirius! Remus! McGonagall! The pain and the love and the... just read it. It says so much about all of them in just such an (appearingly) effortless way. It's beautiful.

The squee I've seen about Nightwing #110 and Fables #39 is making me bounce and really looking forward to Tuesday. Mmm, comics. I don't talk about them a lot in here and some days I do wonder why I spend as much money as I do on them each week but then there's that one issue that makes you just go 'wow' and then you remember what a powerful (or amusing) story-telling medium it's capable of being in the right hands.

--

All the shows that I've seen lauded by either critics or the dear old flist are hitting NZ now. Doctor Who just started, Grey's Anatomy was on last night (I watched and quite enjoyed it), Veronica Mars is starting tomorrow (must remember to set VCR), Desperate Housewives starts Monday and Without A Trace S3 is coming soon. *dies* To think a couple of months ago I was only complaining that there was nothing on!

--

I'm very wide awake (two mochas and a bottle of Coke apparently make me rather bouncy, who would have thought?) and the Emmy nominations are less than an hour away, so I'll stay up for those to be announced and maybe read some more OotP. Hugh Laurie should hopefully be a safe-bet and I'm crossing my fingers for more House noms, but I'm realistic enough that I don't think it's that likely. It'll be Lost's show, I think.
