So, I borrowed a copy of Wired from my workmate because it's a cool magazine ... and yes, okay, Future!Hiro is on the cover.

I am idly flipping through it waiting for a file to copy over and, what's this? Alfonso Cuaron is rumoured to be doing the Magneto movie.

Hell. Yes.

Now, I know there are currently other directors linked to the project, and well, I know how these things go, especially it seems with comic book movies, but that would be awesome! My fannish heart would be quite overcome.

Just needed to share. This might be old news by now.

Also, the latest episode of Dr. Who? Pretty damn awesome.

Doctor Who: The Lazarus Experiment )

Wow, I really have to update my icons. Seriously.

My day has mostly been pretty eh. I woke up at 3am in a panic because I thought I'd forgotten to organise something at work (I went in to work to check, I hadn't), I then slept badly and every time I wanted a shower this morning someone else was in there and I was just tired and grumpy, and reading about the Republican Debate (total WTF on the abortion and evolution questions, and having debates this fucking early) made me angy and I was angry at myself and just, eh.

However, I decided to make myself some real food and ended up making the best tasting vegetarian curry I've made in quite a while (patience makes a difference when cooking, who'd have thunk it?) and reading Dave's Long Box, which is a hilarious comics blog I found via [livejournal.com profile] kphoebe's always delightful [livejournal.com profile] girlsreadcomic.

Particular highlights are the two-part review of Thor #499, and his post on Saliva Strand Syndrome - a silent killer. He even wrote a post bashing Gambit, and I laughed. (Because dude that allusion to Richard Gere is kinda apt). I like Gambit!

Oh, comics. I may not read you nearly as much any more but I shall always have a soft spot for you and your complete and utter insanity.

My evening has definitely improved.

And now I'm craving ice-cream, but can I be bothered to go down the hill and get some?

Also, do I watch Collateral (not a big fan of Tom Cruise, or Jamie Foxx, though I do like Michael Mann movies) or keep on playing on the internet?

These are questions for the ages.

Finally, I love The Daily Show. There are a couple of calls in that piece that are just awesome.

So, it was Armageddon time again (Wellington's answer to a sci-fi con, but mostly a way to separate geeks from their money) and I spent about five hours there today with my 14 year old cousin, which was really cool. We don't hang out that much, but it was really cool to spend the day with her and she held up under my geeky ramblings very well. ;)

Armageddon 2007: Brian K Vaughan, Aaron Douglas, Don S Davis and other geekery )

So, yeah, good day and now I have to get ready to go out for Indian. Mmmm.

Also, I saw Sunshine on Thursday and I really recommend it if you like your sci-fi a little more psycological than action packed. It has a few cliches but overall it's well worth watching. The direction and soundtrack are also very cool.

I spent 12 hours at work today and I can't say that I'm really looking forward to work tomorrow, but since I came home I've watched the latest two eps of Dr. Who and I feel quite a bit better. Not fabulous, but definitely better.

Doctor Who: 'Runaway Bride' and 'Smith and Jones' )

I have been craving this show for weeks now and I'm so glad I grabbed these two eps.

Also, randomly, I caught up on the last two TPBs of 'Y: The Last Man' and ... wow. So much love. Now I'm really going to have to make sure I see Brian K Vaughan at Armageddon this year. Between this and 'Runaways' and 'Ex Machina' ... I just love his stuff so much.

Now, sleep. Tomorrow is another day.

Heh. I just finished my Yuletide sign-up and apparently I was feeling rather gutsty tonight as I signed up to write quite a few more fandoms than I had planned, and with a large majority I said I'd write any character. That could be interesting. Ah well. It'll be fun. Until like a day before deadline when no doubt I'll be asking myself why I thought this was a good idea.

NZ TV is very bereft of good programmes right now. There is literally no programme apart from occasionally the news that I am going out of my way to watch and the new US seasons won't get here until after Summer. My TV watching has fallen the way of the DVD. However ... I might have asked for an external hard-drive for Christmas. So pretty! So much space!

Fandom wise my brain has mostly been going: Stones! BSG! Stones! VMars! Stones! And House, Grey's and Studio 60 (which I haven't even seen one episode of) are kinda playing around on the very far reaches.

However, I did just re-read the first three trades of 'Planetary' again recently and now I really, really want the fourth and the library didn't want to lend it to me (ie: some bastard already has it out). This could be dangerous. I have to remember not to walk past the comics store this weekend.

So, I may have spent all day at Armageddon. *sheepish look* However, it was well, well worth it.

X3, Serenity, Jewel Staite, Claudia Christian, Phil Jiminez and All Manner of Geekery )

Now, if you'll excuse me, there's a DVD I've been wanting to watch for a very long time now. ;)

I have arrived safely and as it turns out, Internet access won't be much of an issue, which is wonderful, from a job-searching standpoint as well as a 'keep Tali sane' standpoint. ;)

Everything here is going okay. My friend who I'm staying with is truly wonderful and has been a great help. I still don't think it's hit me properly yet - it still feels like a vacation - but I suppose that's more of a time thing. Hello, self, only 24 hours have passed.

Also, I have made my first rather inadvisable purchase. I put the blame firmly at James Jean's feet for drawing such pretty Fables covers.

I managed to catch Grey's Anatomy last night. Still loving it, but don't really have anything specific to say, other than I really can't seem to help but really like McDreamy. Also, Bailey rocks and George is as wonderful as ever, but those are givens.

Random: There are songs you can probably mutter along to while siting at a public computer listening to your iPod - Damien Rice's 'Woman Like A Man'? Not really one. It's kind of like the time I found myself half-singning along to Liz Phair's 'Flower' in the supermarket. *facepalm*

I really can't remember what I've called half my tags anymore.

The Internet was good to me yesterday:

1. I got my (metaphorical) hands on the latest ep of House Need to Know )

2. I found a really interesting thread about the Logan/Veronica relationship in S2.

3. I finally found out where the L/V arm touch was and got a clip of it. (Ruskie Business, for the curious).

4. I got a new L/V moodthememade by [livejournal.com profile] nighfall_icons/[livejournal.com profile] nordmaedchen. Which I decided I needed at 1:30 this morning. *facepalm*

5. Did I mention that my brain is still hijakced by Logan and Veronica, and occasionally Weevil?

6. Scans from the latest Nightwing. Comics, I do still love you really, I just really can't afford to buy you right now. I miss you. spoilers )

Random Television Thoughts:

1. I watched the pilot of Commander-in-Chief and ... eh. It was okay. Not too bad in places. I'll keep watching, if only for the fact that I'm a politics junkie. I think any US politics show is going to suffer with me as I'll always compare it to TWW, which is unfair, but that's the way it is.

2. Also, Wednesday brought NZ the start of Lost S2. Man of Science, Man of Faith )

3. While documenting what was actually on the video tapes we have piled next to our tv (so I can decide which ones I'm stealing away with me) I found the ones that had 'Bad Wolf' and 'A Parting of Ways' on them. Both of them (but APoW especially) get better every time I see them. Just, awesome. Jack/Rose/Doctor! <3

Real Life:

1. Packing. Goodbyes. Procrastinating from packing. Freaking out. Self doubt. Frustration.

Meme:

1. Which Star-Trek Character Am I? )

2. I really want to do the 'seven songs' meme before I go. I've been meaning to share some songs for ages.

Edit: I just completely forgot how to spell Wednesday. As in, I had to look in a dictionary. Yeah, today's going to be a good brain day.

Hey, 2006.

My New Year's Eve was very relaxed. It wasn't exactly what the four of us had originally planned but it worked out pretty well and there were really good vodka slushies. (Frozen boysenberries, orange juice and vodka, mmm).

Happy New Year, flist! Hope you all have a wonderful 2006!

I've made this list for the last few years and I thought I'd put it here.

Reading 2005:

Today's been a bit of a weird day. I did almost nothing before 2pm and then squeezed so much between 2pm and midnight. Work training, drinking with people from work, going to the casino (bet like 4 bucks) and going out for a coffee with people from work, meeting friends in town, watching some of the Ashes and then finally watching Doctor Who.

Doctor Who: The Doctor Dances )

Contains some later season speculation/spoilers.

I also managed to fit in some time to read the Eric Shanower's second 'Age of Bronze' trade 'Sacrifice.' If you have any interest in the story of the Trojan War and comics, or just one of those things, you should seriously give this series a look. It's fantastic.

Age of Bronze squee )

The picture in my icon is actually from AoB but I've had this icon for ages from when some AoB scans were posted in [livejournal.com profile] scans_daily.

Randomly, I got the chance to see School of Rock last weekend and that movie is wonderful. It's like Dead Poets' Society (yeah, it'a a stretch but Neil = Zach) but with rock music and well, a way happier ending. I've never been Jack Black's biggest fan, but he totally deserved the GG nom he got for that.

Tomorrow: Work *sighs* (but in jeans!) and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Excellent. :D
