From [livejournal.com profile] tangleofthorns: Five songs beginning with the letter P. Download, enjoy, comment if you'd like a letter.

New York Dolls - Private World

Loud and fun.

M.I.A - Paper Planes

I know this has been on every music blog known to man, but it's catchy and the gun shots in it are awesome.

Radiohead - Paranoid Android

Because I'm on a total Radiohead/Thom Yorke kick at the moment.

Lupe Fiasco - Put You On Game

I've never been a big hip-hop fan, but through LJ I've been introduced to Lupe and his songs have been some of my highest played on iTunes. This one isn't my favourite of his, but still well worth a listen.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Phenomena

Gotta love the Yeah Yeah Yeahs and this one is one of my favourites of theirs.

Very happy about the Obama victory (cutest picture ever) but now also so glad that Hilary has finally decided to concede on Saturday. About. Damn. Time. Now if only those VP rumours would just die. (The fact that she was still asking people to go to her site to give her money after South Dakota/Montana just left a really bad taste in my mouth).

List seven songs you are into right now, no matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions in your LiveJournal along with your seven songs. Then tag seven other people to see what they're listening to.

1. Muse - Plug in Baby (the riff, guh)
2. Yeah Yeah Yeahs - Black Tongue
3. The Shins - Pink Bullets
4. The Velvet Underground - Pale Blue Eyes
5. Samuel L. Jackson - Stack-O-Lee (Black Snake Moan Soundtrack)
6. Hans Zimmer - Wheel of Fortune (PotC2 Soundtrack)
7. Muse - Feeling Good

I was trying to avoid the whole two-songs-by-the-same-artist thing, but I am just loving those two songs right now. Also, hardly any of these are recent songs. Huh.

And I tag ... whoever feels like doing it. ;)

Edit: It's perhaps a reflection on my state of mind tonight, that as soon as I posted this I wanted to change my mind and post 7 different songs because I didn't feel they were reflective of what I was listening to, which they are, just not all I'm listening to. Dear self, you can't really encapsulate that in seven songs.

I might make a goodbye 2006 post later today. I have no plans for tonight and to be honest, I'm really fine with that. A lot of the people I know in Wellington are away and just, eh, a quiet night will suit me fine.

Battlestar Galactica S3 reaction through "The Eye of Jupiter" )

I've also seen the pilot of 'Dexter', the pilot of 'Studio 60' (finally) and the second ep of 'Heroes' (the first did not want to work for me) that I want to comment on in more detail at some point, but quickly, I liked Dexter the most, Studio 60 was good but not as good as I was hoping, and I think I need to give Heroes a couple more eps but Hiro is adorable and Mohinder is mmm.

--

And becuse I feel like it, here are some songs I've really been enjoying recently.

I've never been a huge Radiohead fan. I like some of their songs, but I don't own one of their albums, and some of their later stuff got a little too techno for my tastes. However, I have sort of fallen in love with Thom Yorke's new solo album. I love the lyrics and the sound and I keep going back to listen to songs from it. I haven't felt like this about a non-Rolling Stones album for quite a while.

These are the twothree songs I just keep going back to on my iPod:

Thom Yorke - Harrowdown Hill
Thom Yorke - Black Swan
Thom Yorke - Skip Divided

I remember the Regina Spektor squee way back when and never really giving her a chance. Anyway, due to a song of hers appearing in VMars and a friend with some of her songs, I'm really wondering why I didn't. She's adorable and has some great lyrics.

Regina Spektor - Consequence of Sound

I've done a Thea Gilmore pimp post before. She's wonderful. I picked this cover up on an MP3 blog and I really love it.

Thea Gilmore - Ever Fallen in Love? (Buzzcocks Cover)

And I include these because they're hilarous, cute (maybe just the first one) and just a litttle bit geeky.

Animaniacs - Countries of the World
Tom Lehrer - Oedipus Rex

Okay, so maybe a lot geeky. ;)

Look, no Stones! (Though Dear Doctor is hilarious and awesome. *cough*)

I've been meaning to do this for ages but tonight I sat down and actually uploaded the songs.

I get a lot of really awesome music via LJ, either through people posting links or through comms like [livejournal.com profile] audiography, so I decided to share the love. Now I have broadband, I hope to do this a little more often.

Anyway, tonight it's (nearly) all Thea Gilmore, because I found her through LJ pimpage and I adore her. She has a gorgeous voice and some really lovely poetic lyrics. I definitely recommend downloading at least a couple of these. 'This Girl Is Taking Bets' is probably my favourite, but all of them are great songs. I hope someone enjoys them. :)

Well here we are then you and me
Some little joke of chemistry
With all our sun bleached history
Fading as the light gets strong and
We are brave and we are fakes of
Tortured art and higher stakes
And winters knocking at the gates
But the clocks are wrong

Thea Gilmore- You Tell Me

This girl is a stencil of a brushstroke in the rain
She's a ghost of the city, she's a body through the windscreen
This girl is the snowfall where the spring should have been
She's the stains on the pages of a top shelf magazine
This girl is a black eye, she's a bruise on your knee
She's the ashes of the people that you really meant to be

Thea Gilmore - This Girl Is Taking Bets (m4a file) - just click, don't right click 'save as'

Cos who's gonna raise a hand
When all we were taught to do is dance
Who'll be able to stand after this avalanche

Thea Gilmore - Avalanche

And I'm a postcard of everything that I've seen
Just a shadow of hot air and steam
But I wouldn't touch me, got no idea where I've been

Thea Gilmore - Lavender Cowgirl

And I smelled the ghosts of the ashes and the orchids
I've got promises tattooed on the insides of my eyelids
And I'll be watching when the Richter reaches 10
I bled by these weapons, babe, and now I'm one of them.

Thea Gilmore - Apparition No 12 (m4a file) - just click, don't right click 'save as'

We are such pretty little failures
On streets paved with fools gold
And no one will think twice about
The nothing that they've sold

Thea Gilmore - Down to Nowhere

Also, I'm going to share this song because it always makes me smile and I secretly would love to see a Starbuck vid made to it. A little bit crack-y.

The Flaming Lips - Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots Pt 1

All songs on my domain, beacuse I have more space than I know what to do with.

Six (Current) Favourite Songs Meme:

1. The Whitlams - Buy Now Pay Later (Charlie No. 2)
So House/Wilson it's not funny.

2. Rufus Wainwright - Rebel Prince
Oh so pretty.

3. Rilo Kiley - A Better Son-Daughter
From the soft start to the more rocky end, this song is wonderful.

4. The Decemberists - The Legionnaire's Lament
*bops* I can't help it, this song is infectious.

5. The Beatles - In My Life
So much love.

6. The Cure - The Lovecats
It's a little cracktastic and highly addictive.

7. (oh, shush) Melissa Etheridge - Secret Agent
I adore her voice. Guh.

I know there is a tagging part to this meme, but really whoever wants to do it should do it. The uploading isn't required (and if you're on dial-uip like me, it's not pretty) but once I started listing them I felt I had to share them too.

--

Also, while I'm sharing, here are a few songs I'd already uploaded to my webspace and meant to share but never quite got around to making the LJ post for:

Aqualung - Strange and Beautiful
I don't know quite what to write for this one but this is a gorgeous sad song about pining. Mellow, kind-of Indie.

Poe - 5 and 1/2 Minute Hallway
Pretty, pretty song and the little audio clip at the end just makes it that much better. Such a great atmospheric feel.

Rachael Yamagata - Collide
There's a J/S vid in here somewhere, there really is. The piano just kills me.

The Decemberists - Here I Dreamt I Was An Architect
Their lyrics and their style are just wonderful. I have to own their album(s).

Sarah Harmer - Dandelions and Bulletholes
She just has a gorgeous voice.

Ryan Adams - Wonderwall (Oasis Cover) (Live)
I've heard the album version of this and it kind of disappointed me but this live version is wonderful. His voice is fantastic and there are all sorts of amusing asides as he sings.

Ludwig van Beethoven - Moonlight Sonata (Performed by Dame Moura Lympany)
I've always been more of strings girl but this piano piece is easily one of my favourites when it comes to classical music. So sad. So pretty.

I doubt I would have found any of these wonderful artists without other people on my flist's music posts (some of the shared songs might look familiar to some people as songs they've shared) and other LJ music communities. I am very grateful. <3

Nesting Dolls played here tonight. I was sucked in. *headdesk* It wasn't that bad and now I'm wondering if I should start watching CSI again on a regular basis. Damn curiosity. *mumbles* My G/S shipper was (and still sort-of is) on life-support but has not died.

--

I finally got around to updating my recs page. It now has over 30 fandoms (38, I just counted) on it and my 'Pending Recs' Bookmark folder is still ridiculously long. Ridiculously. That's not me using an hyperbole either, there is over 100 fics in that folder. (OMG 191!) *facepalm* I read far too much fic, or like too much of what I read. Something like that anyway. I've pondered getting another LJ and putting some of them in there, but really, it would be just another thing for me to angst over and moan to myself that no-one is reading. This suits me better and really, the list is mostly for me. Sure, if someone reads some good fic because of it, then that's great and I certainly write it so it's accessible to other people, but it's more just a list of fics I've loved in a handy place so I can come back to them and so I can feel a little happy about sharing them, even when I don't make the effort of really pointing people over there.

--

Finally, I love the Internet because it brings me pretty House episodes that haven't aired in this country. Three Stories was just, yeah. *sniffs* *loves them all, yes, even Cameron, as long as she keeps her romantic intentions as far away from House as humanly possible*
