Oh, internet. <3

I went from Dial Up Land to No Internet Land on New Years Eve and got back late last night after all sorts of fun trying to find a taxi home. Ugh.

New Years: bonfires, ferries, Shapeshifer being awesome and the geeky singing of Flight of the Conchords songs )

Still home now. Need to get shit sorted and move my stuff into my new room that my now former flatmate vacated while I was away. Sunshine! And a view over the city. I'm excited.

I may have already caught up with Vegas and the Dr Who Christmas special. *sheepish look*

SGA: Vegas )

Dr Who: The Next Doctor )

Also, Yuletde authors were revealed and I wrote:

To what place (PG) - American Gods fanfic about Laura for tahanrien.

Happily my recipient liked it and I've recieved some very nice reviews. :)

I have a few Yuletide recs at my delicious and hope to add some more as I work through some more tabs.

While I was away I made some new icons. Finally! I downloaded GIMP and it's pretty awesome for something so very free. I uh, may have become a little obsessed with some effects as some of the icons show.

Three whole days til I'm back at work. Joy.

Multiverse fics went up at the comm yesterday, and I wrote.

Every planet has an upside
For: [livejournal.com profile] agonistes
Fandoms: Torchwood and Firefly
Pairing: Jack/Kaylee (kinda, sorta, more interaction that anything)

It's my first crossover, and first piece of fic in either Firefly or Torchwood. Eep. It was a lot of fun to write though and my recipient liked it, so yay. \o/

Also, I saw The Dark Knight. I might have more detailed thoughts later, but while I definitely enjoyed it and thought Heath Ledger was fantastic, I did think it was too long and Christopher Nolan tried to do too much with it.

I have neither Torchwood or Firefly icons. Seriously self, get on that.

Had an interesting weekend. Friday night was insane, but good, but insane. (Why is it always two days after I do things that I start to get all neurotic about them?). I kinda lost Saturday in a haze of sleeping, Eddie Izzard, SGA episodes and fic writing avoidance, and then today was having a coffee with my friend and fic writing. I also just watched Superbad. Pretty hilarious, not like 'best comedy ever' but certainly enjoyable.

While doing a little tag tidying yesterday (I had five tags for Grey's Anatomy) I found this rather hilarious post when I first watched SGA a couple of years ago, before I watched three whole seasons in a row and got fannish about it.

Ford, my favourite character? Rodney is annoying? Apathetic about Teyla? Oh 2005!self, what was going on?

And uh, I may have committed fic? I had something almost done this morning but then ended up trashing all but 100 words and starting again from John's POV, which I found a lot easier than Lorne's. I was really wanting this to be a Lorne POV on Lorne and Sheppard's relationship (no, not like that), but then John came along and brought a lot more Rodney to it. Who would have guessed that would happen in my brain? ;)

So, yeah. The Only Option (John, McKay/Sheppard, little bit of Lorne, SGA, PG-13, approx 1200 words). First time SGA fic.

Lastly, something random. I always used to think aviator sunglasses were a bad look on anyone. This opinion has changed in the last six months and I blame one, okay now two, men. Joe Flanigan. Davd Tennant. Stop it.

Yuletide authors were revealed today, so I can now say I wrote:

Title: Scenes from a happy ending
Fandom: Ladyhawke
Rating: PG
Pairing: Navarre/Isabeau
For: [livejournal.com profile] marinarusalka
Summary: Navarre watches Isabeau sleep.

Scenes from a happy ending

It's been my best received Yuletide fic to date. :D

And I received Perchance to Sleep a lovely MASH fic, by [livejournal.com profile] tassosss. Thank you again!

I've been putting together some Yuletide recs together over on my del.icio.us page. It's a work in progress, because you know, 2000 fics.

(Of the now 90 fics recced on the recs page as whole, 54 are SGA. *looks sheepish*)

Work tomorrow. Joy. I get to face my to-do list. However, it's only two days till the weekend, so that's something, I guess.

As I now have a Yuletide fic to write, and I haven't written fic in an age:

The first fifteen people to comment on this post get to request a drabble from you. In return, they have to post this meme in their journal. Post all fandoms you’re willing to write for.

I'll write: Sportsnight, West Wing*, Firefly, Battlestar Galactica, Dr.Who, Harry Potter, SGA (what?), House, Heroes, Ocean's Eleven, PotC, Veronica Mars* ... hell, anything you know I might have watched or read about recently, I'll give it a go.

* Bearing in mind there are some later episodes I haven't seen, so there are some characters I'm not that familiar with.

Stolen from a lot of people, but most recently [livejournal.com profile] laylee.

SGA? Still a ridiculous amount of awesome.

Wow. My last post in here was about buying these DVDs and this post is going to be my reaction to them two weeks later. I should post more.

Battlestar Galactica Season Two - spoilers )

I also really need to sort out my tags because they really are all over the place. Happily LJ has made this easier, but that's not a task for tonight. I have a whole long weekend to avoid it. ;)

I've hardly been reading any fic recently. It's odd. I used to read so much. Maybe it's the fact that I've been mostly reading LJ on my 'no community LJs' filter and I don't see as many fic posts. Maybe my life has enough drama at the moment that I don't feel the need to supplement it with fic, but then saying that, fic is at least partially about escapism. Or it could be that my main fandom of late is rather bereft of fic in general. (C'mon people, I might have to start writing the Stones fic myself). Saying that, I'm getting back into VMars and BSG so that might get me to read some more. Hmm. Just pondering.

And a meme, because it's been a while:

Comment with the name/title of a fandom I'm aware of, no matter how obvious you think the answers will be, and I'll reply you with the relationships -canon or not - from it I ship. I'll give favorite romantic relationships as well as favorite platonic ones. Also, you're free to reply in subthreads and ask me why I ship or don't ship something.

1. My [livejournal.com profile] houserareathon entry is up. Keys (Foreman, Wilson, House, G). Meep. I haven't posted fic in ages. *frets*

2. I really need to learn to just shut up some days. Really. That shall be my aim tomorow. To think before I speak.

3. I've started watching Rescue Me and I'm really quite enjoying it. It made me cry tonight (standard disclaimer: it's not that hard). Dennis Leary deserves the GG nom he got.

4. DVD Unlimited sent me disc 1 of the new Battlestar Galactica and it took me less than 24 hours to get through. Ooh, it's pretty. Oh so pretty.

Brief BSG thoughts through 'Act of Contrition' )

5. I swear I'm almost counting down the hours till Veronica Mars on Friday.

6. My life really isn't this much about television. Really.

Would anyone be willing to look over my entry for the [livejournal.com profile] houserareathon? (Yes, I know, cutting it fine).

It's just over 1000 words of G-rated gen. (House, Wilson and Foreman, if that matters) and it probably will help if you've seen 2.07.

If anyone can, I will owe you a huge favour.

Leave your e-mail address in the comments and I will forward it on.

Thank you!

I thought I might as well share the poem-type thing I wrote for [livejournal.com profile] alternate_verse's Wordathon (which now has a community over at [livejournal.com profile] fridgemagnetfic). It was a great idea, and you can check out the above link to see what words had to be used in the fic/poem.
