I've got a (fucked up) theory ...
Feb. 11th, 2011 07:40 pmSo, I said I was going to take a step back from Fringe fandom? Ha! My brain has instead gifted me with an insane Peter vid bunny and ... whatever this is.
The following theory is based on the rumours and speculation currently circulating about tonight's Fringe ep. So, um, it's spoilery potentially? It also references an only mildly-spoilery advance review.
So by now I've accepted that AltLivia's pregnant. Too many signs point to it. Yep. Okay. Not a huge fan of the plotline in general but I've accepted it and I'm willing to give the writers the benefit of the doubt on this one ... at the moment.
But there's got to be a Fringe-y twist, right? And dear Mr Pinker and Mr Wyman are dropping hints that it's not a traditional pregnancy storyline, and has something weird about it ... and then I read this advance review at Televisionary which says:
In Ancient Egypt, the scarab beetle was a sacred insect.
The daily behaviors of the Scarabaeus sacer were viewed as symbolic of greater issues of immortality; among them, rebirth, resurrection, and renewal. They were believed to be created out of death itself, given that the parasitic insects would lay their eggs in the bodies of hosts.
Keep that in mind when watching tonight's stellar episode of Fringe("Immortality"), written by David Wilcox and Ethan Gross and directed by Brad Anderson, which is set entirely "Over There," as we learn that fallout that has occurred in the life of their Olivia Dunham after her escape from "our" world.
So, um, my theory: What if AltLiva isn't pregnant with her and Peter's child but with Olivia and Peter's child.
Yeah.
To be honest, the idea freaks me the fuck out, but that has not stopped Fringe before. In fact, it's something they tend to embrace.
I admit there are holes (like does AltLivia know? How did they get Peter's ... cells, because it has to be part of Walternate's master plan) but then Jasika has said in an interview that it will link the two universes like nothing else has, and everyone was like, 'No, but Peter and Altlivia are both from the same side, she must have misspoken,' .... sure, Peter and AltLivia are, but not Peter and Olivia. (Of course, there is a theory that by link it might mean that the father is on one side and the mother on the other .... so, like I said, holes).
Have I just picked and chose a line out of this review? Catering to my rather insane Peter and Olivia 'shipping tendencies? Maybe. Reading back over it again I'm not really sure I'm right at all. But, c'mon there has to be a twist!
Right, I had to commit that to the internet. I will no doubt be proved wildly wrong.
Brief cut fail, I am so sorry if someone saw something they didn't want to.
