So when I said I should watch the rest of Generation Kill, I didn't exactly think I would have it finished ten hours later, but uh, here we are.
Overall: Damn you Skarsgard. And if you even think it might appeal to you, you should watch it. David Simon, you do some good TV, sir.
Oh, seriously. I loved this.
It was poignant, heart breaking and at times freaking hilarious (I loved Ray's occasional "this war is about ..." moments and the singing, oh the singing).
Brad, I admit, was my favourite, and wow, he's one interesting dude. I thought I was getting him, and then he went and 'flew' around a field. That was awesome. Also, his comment about only missing his bike, and 'don't you feel better now?' and trying to line up how things happened and this being you know, his career, just yeah, interesting dude. Alexander Skarsgard was also damn impressive, he has some talent. And uh, are those his tattoos? Because, I find myself fascinated by them.
Nate, oh Nate. Trying to do the right thing, and trying to follow orders ("I am assured of this ... ") and in the end, breaking and just firing back at the commander. I must admit though, I did like the bit at the end with the reporter interviewing Godfather and what he said about the differences between Captain America and Nate, that was fascinating.
Ray was all sorts of awesome. I loved his relationship with Brad, and just, his general Ray-ness.
Poke was slso a really interesting guy. He made me think a lot.
I kind of want a Walt for my very own.
Trombley was disturbing, but also fascinating.
I also really liked Pappi (before he disappeared) and Rudy was great.
And always a sucker for a musical montage, I loved how they ended on the video and them all slowly walking away (and Brad never watching at all), and bonus Johnny Cash.
The football scene at the end reminded me of the baseball scene at the end of "Band of Brothers" ... actually it just occurs to me I was thinking about the one at the end of "Traffic" (which is an interesting parallel) but there is one in BoB as well, right? Anyway, it was like that, but a little more fucked up. Or a lot. Oh, Ray. And go the Alpha commander for punching the Bravo commander, because, hell he deserved it.
Also, knowing that Nate/Brad is by far the most popular pairing, and having read some of it, I was on the look out from the beginning and at the start I wasn't really seeing it, but those last two episodes, especially "A Bomb in the Garden," oh, yes. Eye-fucking incorporated, and smiles! Would it crash and burn? Probably. But it would be a fun ride.
I also love Brad and Ray's relationship, and part of me might like to see it as something else, but it's a small part I think.
I need to read the book now.
I have lived a lot of today on honey and toast. Tomorrow, vegetables, yes. Now, well, I imagine some Gen Kill fic.
And phone interview went well, have real interview on Tuesday. Yay. :)
