I've had a very social day. Lunch, drinks after work, ran into people prior to a movie (Iron Man!) and then went to the movie with another friend, and tomorrow I'm off to Auckland till Wednesday to hang with my friend who is heading off to the UK (*sniff*) and seeing the Foo Fighters. Hilariously, I also learned via an e-mail from my Mum that my brother will be in Auckland this weekend as well, for the Foo Fighters. He's going to a different show, but I think we're going to try and catch up which would be cool, as I haven't seen him since Christmas.

Amusingly, in the same e-mail Mum told me about my brother, she told me about her reaction after finishing DH. Quite different from my own. She cried a lot about Snape. Not that I hate Severus, but he is certainly not my favourite character. Anyway, it amused me.

I should really not still be up, or should at least be packing for tomorrow as for some reason I agreed to do some testing tomorrow at work. Don't quite know why I did that when I'm about to go on leave for a week and have to catch a plane, but anyway, I did.

Catch everyone when I return. :)

I was literally bouncing in my chair reading reviews for this a couple of days ago (and dude, it's still at 95 freaking percent at Rotten Tomatoes after 130 reviews) and I simply adored the trailer, but I think I might have built it up just a little too much in my head.

I also have a strange love for the comics character (especially the insane Ultimates version, which I think had some influence in the movie), even though he can be a real douche, but saying that, characterization wasn't really the movie's problem. Robert Downey Jr was just awesome. He made the movie, and I think it just wouldn't have worked without him, at all. He was Tony Stark. <3! (Although I do take someone's point that he really didn't drink enough in the second half of the movie, but I get why they made that call).

This is also not to say that the movie was bad, at all, I still really enjoyed it, I think I was just expecting something I would love every second of, and this wasn't quite the case.

I thought the plot had some issues, but I can't really put my finger on why right now, it just didn't really fit quite right in my head. Tony's change of heart was cool and awesome and well done but the supporting parts with Obidiah and the terrorists didn't quite gel.

Also, the action sequences were kinda underwhelming, except okay, the flying sequences did rock hard.

ETA: Okay, and the suit was awesome, and gorgeous.

Anyway, my issues with those aside, Gwyneth Paltrow was awesome as Pepper. She wasn't given a huge amount to do, but what she did do I really, really enjoyed.

And then there was the fire extinguishing robot. ;) He was awesome. He had characterization and everything.

Yay Clark Gregg! I thought he did well and I hope this means he'll be getting more high profile work.

Also really liked the guy who was held captive with Tony.

I liked Terrence Howard and Jeff Bridges fine, but I didn't think Terrence was given much to work with. I hope they use him more in the inevitable sequel, because there's just no way there's not going to be one.

I did think it was interesting that they did end on 'Yeah, I'm Iron Man.' They're going with no secret identity? Or will it played off as a joke?

Holy product placement, Burger King.

I may have literally done \o/ at the after credits scene. But I wasn't the only one. Geeks. <3 Yay Ultimate 'verse shout-out and oh god, I hope Samuel L Jackson plays Nick Fury (another comic book character I love) in a sequel. That really was an awesome post-credits scene. Well played, Mr Favreau, well played, sir.

So, yeah, in conclusion? Not OMG awesome, but petty damn cool and I love Robert Downey Jr.
