I spent far too much of the day fretting over my internet connection, which as it turn out was just being crappy and was not the result of the sour cream incident of last night (don't ask). Thank fuck. But yeah, that took up much more of the day that I had planned.

Anyway, finally got to this, although I think my viewing was affected by seeing The Golden Compass a few hours before, as I think it was a little bit-sy? Which was something I also thought about the movie. Although Lee Scorsbey was freaking fantastic.

Yeah, like I said bit-sy. Also, I had read a lot of hype about this ep, which may have not helped. I just didn't feel the flow between scenes and it kinda bugged me.

Which is not to say that I thought it was bad, not in the slightest.

The opening scene killed me. John calling Rodney 'dude,' getting him to play a golf game (which John totally sold to Rodney with the whole physics angle, you know it ... and there is so a ficlet there) and then handing John the ring (SGA vidders say thank you!) oh, John just looked so confused when Rodney said what he was going to do. Just, seriously, so confused. <3!

I must admit on the first viewing I thought Rodney so had told John the reasons behind the numbers and John had just remembered, but on further viewings, that was not the case. John was all smart and figured it out. Oh. John. i flail in your direction. I am such a sucker for Geek!Sheppard, you have no idea. Also, the way Teyla's eyes totally bugged out when John said he knew the password just proves how crazy a deal it was ... what?

John climbing the tower. Fuck. That was insane. Now with added Batman references. <3

Also that whole John feeing the baby kick thing was ... yeah. *melts* He will make such a good Uncle John.

I do find it a little odd that John keeps mentioning friends from college ... is this just a coincidence or a convenient way to have John talk about stuff ... also, I might be being effected by fanon here.

Anyway, John aside ... my brain does other things, really.

Ronon was awesome tonight, with the cute and being so happy he could blow up stuff! He was all gleeful he could re-enact Jaws, which is a damn fine movie. (And I find it hilarious that both John and he expected to find C4 everywhere). Also, with the sharing and the almost kissing and being all defensive to John. <3

Keller was great too (still so happy Jewel Staite has regular work) and I love that we got some insight into her character there.

Rodney was just ... oh, Rodney. Everyone needed you! And expected you to fix stuff! And I felt for him with the Katie thing, but I'm glad they ended it that way, because they would have never have worked. I never had an issue with Katie (although that plant stroking was ... yeah) but she and Rodney just were not right for each other. Also, I think he was allergic to that plant and not just being a hypochondriac ... although there may have been elements of both at play.

Chuck was like totally a character. Go Chuck! And go other female gate technician too! And Lorne!

And I didn't forget Sam and Zelenka! They were awkward and kinda cute and I love Radek's crushes on powerful women and Sam was all smile-y and yeah, they were great too.

Oh, show.

Two very cool tags have also been posted for this ep. They're quite different takes, but both well, well worth a read.

Not Really All That Random by [livejournal.com profile] crysothemis. (McKay/Sheppard, PG)

Not On the Market by [livejournal.com profile] apple_pi (McKay/Sheppard, PG-13)

Also, this site is beyond awesome. Street Fighter meets Indecision 2008. (link via the very cool Girl Wonder blog).

Haven't properly caught up on primaary/caucus results, although I did figure out that Tsunami Tuesday will be Waitangi Day here so I can follow it at home in all my geeky glory. This makes me happier than I would like to admit.
