I always love when you come back from some time away from your flist and you catch up all at once and get this total squee high. Love it.

I will say it does help when there's been an ep of SGA that everyone is all "!!! *draws sparkly hearts around*" about. ;)

Anyway, why I was away from my computer for a couple of days:

All things considered, I think this is the best BDO I've had. I still think Muse is the best act I've seen at any BDO, but overall, I really enjoyed this year. A lot. From the acts, to the company to the freaking food. (Samosas and Hungarian Bread Puffs for the win! Seriously, I need to know if they sell those puffs anywhere in Wellington).

My friend A and I arrived about 1:30, deciding that there was nothing on early we wanted to see and if you start at 11 you just want to sleep 12 hours later and are never awake for the later acts.

We kinda wanted to see Liam Finn, but ended up missing him, so we wandered around and were seduced by the boiler room bass. We bopped around happily there for a while to the Kingsland Vinyl Appreciation Society and then Dr Octagon and then kept wandering.

The first full act we saw were Spoon. We had a pretty good view (lead singer rather pretty) and they were fun to listen to. I don't know a lot of their songs, but I know a couple and it was fun. I'm not about to run out and buy their album (see: LCD Soundsystem) but it was in no way a wasted hour.

We then wandered some more, spent a little more time in the boiler room, and caught a little of Billy Bragg while siting in the rather awesome Telecom sponsored shade. Yes, it pains me it was Telecom, but it was nice.

I must admit, we probably benefited from experience after last year's squash-during-Scribe-debacle and the fact that I wanted to be in the D for Arcade Fire, because we made our D move during Pluto (ugh, no better live that last year) and so walked straight in, and then just stayed there.

The Arcade Fire were freaking amazing! So, so, so good live. They played a great mix of songs and we were by some people who were quite into it. I don't know if A was so entranced by them, but I loved them. From the violins rocking out, to the member of the band who climbed the scaffolding with his drum. The Herald review said they were one of the best BDO acts ever. Don't know if I'd go that far, but they were damn good.

Also, bonus celebrity citing: John Campbell in the D for Arcade Fire. The girls behind us gave him a huge hug and kissed him on the cheek. He looked like he was nearly blushing. <3

Next were Shihad. We decided not to cross sides of the D and get a better view for Bjork's sure-to-be-interesting stage show. Shihad sounded like they were on though. I almost wish I was bouncing a bit, but I enjoyed them from where we were. I can't believe the organisers stopped Shihad for a bit, but good on them for doing it, because those guys were fucking crazy. They do leave some room in the D, and I understand that seeing people sitting down in the D while your favourite band is playing is frustrating, but it's the same rules for everyone, dude. Make the move earlier.

Bjork was ... interesting. Her stage show was cool and insane but I must admit that neither my friend or I were particularly in to her music (I feel that I should get it, but I just don't although maybe I need to give it some time) so we wandered out (yes, left the D before Rage, it made more sense than our previous plan) and went to ...

LCD Soudystem. Which as it turned out was an awesome choice. We got a pretty good spot and just bounced and danced and yes, sweated but they were great. So great that I just bought their album on iTunes. Quite a bit rockier live that on their album, but I like both ways. Honestly ... so good. I even got a t-shirt.

Then we dragged ourselves away from the last LCD song and went to check out Rage. Now, truthfully, I don't know a lot of Rage songs, and where we stood in the stands I couldn't really get the nuance of the songs, but the view of the crowd was amazing. The bouncing and just the sheer numbers were mind-boggling and kinda ... pretty? Standing there I was so glad I had decided to go after wavering a bit. Also, we heard 'Killing in the Name Of' the one song I really know and it was awesome.

Then was Supergroove, which was a great nostalgia trip and with the whole crowd singing it was awesome. A good end to the night.

Also, I saw American Gangster toady and oh, Denzel, I adore you. <3 Very good movie overall too. Maybe a little long, but I really liked it. Though I do seem to like Ridley Scott movies a lot. (Gladiator being the exception, as it gets worse every time I see it).

In competition for best link from the flist catch up:

Dear, Joe Flanigan. How are you so hot? You too Jason Momoa, but Joe, seriously, how? (Kinda spoilery for future eps). Pics via [livejournal.com profile] tx_tart via Gateworld.

Finally, my flat meeting was about what I feared, so I am moving. To be honest, there was an option to stay here but the more I thought about moving the more I liked the idea. So, moving it is. Crappy time to look, I know, but I have three weeks, so hopefully it'll be okay. Hopefully. I am in a far better position to look than last time I looked at this time. Just, cross your fingers or send good vibes or something? :)
