Christmas was very relaxed. We visited in the morning and then just basically veged for the rest of the day. We watched movies (Shrek, Monty Python's 'The Meaning of Life' and then parts of Jurassic Park and As Good As It Gets), we ate and we drank. It was pretty good actually. My cousin from Australia stayed with us for a couple of days and that was pretty cool. Presents wise, I did okay. (Shoes, Foo Fighters album, 'Finding Neverland' 'Family Guy' S1 - dude, I love Stewie - and 'Monty Python's The Meaning of Life' on DVD and some other stuff). The weather was very 'eh' until about six pm when it was just beautiful. I went for a very nice walk and just lay under a tree for a while.

Due to my cousin visiting and other stuff I haven't read as many [livejournal.com profile] yuletide fics as I'd have liked but I've got a slew of bookmarked fics, so that should be fun.

Also, I've seen two very cool movies in the last two days:

Oh, so cute.

I liked it quite a bit more than ‘Spirited Away’ for some reason. I was waiting for the sad ending, but in the end, everything worked out okay. I was almost half-expecting Sophie to die for Howl, or Howl to die for them, but no, all happy.

I loved Howl. He just rocked. I definitely preferred him as he appeared at the start though, with the blond hair and the cape. The dark hair cut was not quite as flattering on him but hey, it’s a very minor quibble.

However, I didn’t just love Howl. Sophie and everyone else were also very cool.

Billy Crystal was a great choice for Calcifer. However, Christian Bale? That was a little WTF? I had no idea it was him doing the voice. Hmmm.

I really want that the door to the castle. That was such a cool door.

It was a gorgeous movie. Small things, like the animation when Sophie lit a candle in her hat shop near the start and the light spread out. It was beautiful.

You had to feel for the Scarecrow/Turnip-Head/The Prince a little. His true love was in love with someone else, but I suppose that happens sometime.

One thing, you didn’t really get what eventually cured Sophie’s curse, but my friend suggested that it started to crumble whenever she didn’t think she was ugly or plain. That seemed to make sense to me.

I enjoyed it a lot more than I was expecting. A lot more. The only real problem I had with it was the ending, which did start to drag a little, but otherwise, it was a very enjoyable film to watch.

King Kong vs T.Rex x 3? Loved it. It was fantastic and for some reason, so hilarious. My friend and I were laughing all the way through but more in a ‘dude, this rocks’ way rather than a ‘oh god’ way. If that makes any sense.

I also loved the bugs. I don’t really have many issues with bugs and spiders - there are exceptions, see: Shelob – and I loved how everyone else was squirming in the theatre and my friend and I were sitting there rubbing out hands together.

The relationship between Kong and Anne? Oh, how I felt it. No tears but I did feel it. Peter Jackson etc did a great job communicating that. There was really a lot of feeling in this movie and it was very well done. Kong’s fall … eep.

I loved Jack (I need to see more Adrien Brody films) and quite liked Anne. Carl annoyed me and endeared himself to me all at the same time, which I suppose he was supposed to do.

I also developed quite an attachment to Captain Engelhorn, Hayes and Jimmy. They rocked. And I knew the guy who played Hayes was familiar, and after consulting IMDb he played Charlie on Alias.

Acting wise, I was pretty impressed. I do have a newfound appreciation for Jack Black after seeing ‘School of Rock’ but he can still bug me and in this, he still did, but only a very little.

The movie was beautifully shot - those sunset scenes in particular – but all in all it was gorgeous.

Regularly Scheduled Shallowness: Mmm, Adrien Brody. Also, honourable mentions to Thomas Kretschmann and Jamie Bell.

I kind of liked how they cut to black after they knocked Kong out but it does beg the question – how the hell did they get him back to New York?
