I'ts been a rather pleasant day, all things considered. I had brunch with Mum, walked along a beach, finished the book I was reading and watched (apart from the 10 minutes of LAX I caught - Blair Underwood is pretty but that only takes him so far) some rather wonderful TV.

Last week (or maybe the week before?) we learn about the 'friend' who Logan kissed and who Veronica told Lily about and this week, we find out who it was. The way everything just fits together in this show is just beautiful.

All in all, it was pretty enjoyable. Veronica and Keith continue to be awesome and Logan, well, *gulps* Part of me really hopes his mother is alive for his sake, but part of me just doesn't quite buy it.

I liked the scene between Logan and Duncan. Their relationship is interesting. Hell, nearly all of the relationships on this show are interesting.

I picked who was responsible for the 'kidnapping' (and there was so a little bit a paralell in the respective father and son relationships we saw this week) pretty easily but ddin't pick Logan turning up at Veronica's door. Very nice. I can't wait for next week!

My current feelings on the murderer? Celeste Kane, but maybe that's a little too obvious. There's just something about her. I get the feeling that Duncan's missing couple of days might not just be the result of grief but something more siniister but really, who knows? Well, apart from everyone who's already seen the S1 finale, that is. :p

Promo pics.

Ron Livingston! (Must own BoB on DVD).

Balcony scene!

Wilson's forearms! (Honestly, each episode needs a scene with Wilson in a shirt with his sleeves rolled up).

As for the casting spoiler, Cynthia Nixon is suposed to star in an ep later this season. Cynthia Nixon! Miranda was by far my favourite of the SatC four and arguably CN was one of the better actresses. Definitely looking forward to that.

Also, I have to take a moment to squee about the series of books I just finished reading.

I just adored this series. The detail, the humour and the richness were just amazing.

Daniel was such a wonderful character. (In fact, even his descendents were wonderful because I just loved Randy and Lawrence from the Cryptonomicon as well). I just loved him. He had faults but under all of it, he was adorable.

I just loved Daniel's relationship with Roger. I'm a little bit of a shipper really, because they just had the best conversational banter. His comment about Roger almost being his 'wife' made me squee because that's actually quite accurate. And the comment about Roger no longer being there to fix everything for them was heart-breaking.*sniffs*

As for Daniel and Issac, I am a total shipper because it was complicated but in the end, Daniel's devotion was just beautiful. I especially loved the scene in The Confusion when he just sits beside Issac when he's sick. Through it all, they were friends but it was a complicated and sublte sort of friendship and in the end, I think they did love each other, which was sort of hinted at right at the beginning of Quicksilver. It would be out of character for Daniel to actually do anything about it, but in the end, it was love.

I got a pretty strong House/Wlson vibe from Daniel and Issac but really Issac would probably have been even harder to deal wtih than House, albeit in a bit of a different way.

Jack and Eliza's story-line didn't grab me as much - though in the end it really was all intermingled into one story - but I grew to love them and the ending they got was pretty awesome. Jack hanging out with the King of France. Bwa.

Also, Bob letting go of the birds was just beautiful. There were some wonderful touches of emotion in these books.

Other characters I liked: Bob, Malborough and Barnes (I just loved their epilogue). Caroline. Liebniz. Dappa. Van Hoek.

One quibble: Daniel and Isaac didn't get a goodbye scene! Isaac is brought back from the dead and then .. Daniel is looking at the steam engine. I know their relationship was all about the subtleties and I know Isaac did say something nice at the end there but c'mon! Just one small scene would have killed you? I think the whole ending was a little bit rushed, really. I would have liked a little more detail about how Jack got out.

All in all, I highly recommend them. They're not the easiest read; I lost the story-line in places and sometimes the science got too much for me but that's balanced by just such a wonderful historical setting. It's an era I didn't know much about and now I'd really like to find out more. You really can't tell where the history leaves off and the fiction begins, and that's one of the series' charms. They're such an absorbing and wonderful read.

I know there is a small amount of fic out there too (okay, I know of one story which has rocketed right to the top of my reading list) and I would love to see some more by anyone who could make it work but it could be a bit of a task. I am very tempted to request some for Yuletide though. Very tempted. Mmm.

Edit: That one story is the rather wonderful Praxis. The characterization and style are just wonderful and it's the goodbye scene I wanted. *sniff* It's beautiful.

Must sleep. I start work in 7 hours. *sighs*
