Today, well was all about snow really. Yes, snow in September. It's been a weird Winter and obviously it's going to be a weird Spring too. There was so much snow around Christchurch today that most schools and busineses ended up closing. It was very pretty (I've got some pictures I might share at a later date) but it's going to start get annoying very quickly. It's supposed to snow more overnight but tomorrow is really just going to be all about slush.

So, I was supposed to go out to lunch but I basically spent a large portion of my day curled up in front of the fire with Neal Stephenson's The Confusion. I love this series, even it does take me ages to get through each book. The research it must have taken and the detail is just breathtaking.

As far as the Emmys go, my reaction is going to be a little brief because NZ TV decided not to show this ceremony this year. Grr.

There were two wonderful things:

Felicity Huffman winning for 'Best Actress in a Comedy Series' because OMG, yes. I saw a quick clip of the award being presented and I was crossing my fingers for Felicity but in no way did I think she'd win. I'm so happy that she did because she's the best thing about that show and one of the only reasons I've kept watching. She's wonderful.

David Shore winning for 'Best Writing in a Drama Series' for 'Three Stories' because that was one fantastic hour of television.

Everything else was just a little ... eh.

I really don't get why Everybody Loves Raymond gets so many awards, I really don't. As [livejournal.com profile] michellek said in her Emmys post, at least they can't win again. Amen.

Hugh losing to James Spader also sucked. Now admittedly I've never seen Boston Legal and I hear that Spader's pretty impressive but I just really, really thought Hugh deserved to wn. Biased? Sure, a little.

Random Suerpficiality:

I wish I had seen the whole thing because it seemed like it wasn't a bad ceremony even if the awards themselves weren't always great. Hugh and Zach Braff presented an award together? That is brilliant.

Kristen Bell was singing? From the photos I've seen online, she looked gorgeous but I've read mixed reviews of her performance.

That was quite some dress Marcia Cross had, but hey, it suited her.

Ow. That Leo yelling scene from last week still hurts to watch. Also, anvilicious 'previouslies.'

How does Toby get to sit at that table? I mean. He's the Communcations Direcotr and a Domestic Policy Advisor to the President. Eh, reality. Why is it bothering me now?

CJ and Josh hug. Aww.

Basketball. Shout-out to S1? (Crackpots and These Women, I think.) That must have really sucked to shoot for the actors. All that dialgoue while playing basketball.

'We'll be the ones to lose our Right of Return?' Um, this is the second and last term of this Administration. Was I just misunderstanding that? Did it mean their right to return to the Middle East?

'Right Rosebud, after dinner we solve World Peace.' Heh.

Peacekeepers are the answer? Yeah, there are some issues with that.

This is going to sound a little odd but Josh didn't really look like .. Josh. It was just the wardrobe choices, they seemed a little not!Josh. Might have just been me.

I admit I was tired but all that dialogue smacked a lot more of 'ooh, look how much obscure knowledge about the Middle East peace process I can make the characters say' than having them say dialogue that actually meant anything. Wells was just trying too hard to be Sorkin and failing.

They broke Jed/Leo! (The friendship, not an actual romantic pairing). Now, while I think that it was in-character for Leo to take the position he did ... to actually resign and for him and Jed to stop talking was a little WTF? They've been thorugh much tougher things than this and while I'm pretty sure Wells is going to patch everything up, it just felt wrong. Josh checking everything was okay was good, but yeah, it was too much. Also, the fact that I'm typing this relatively calmly when the friendship between Jed and Leo is something that I just adored about this series probably says more than anything. I'm not that pissed off, I'm just 'meh.'

I did like how they shot the scenes with Leo's collapse but for them all to leave just like that seemed a little too much. The cellphone was suitably eeiry though.

I feel the need to go and watch 'Bartlet for America' or 'He Shall From Time to Time' now.
