I really enjoyed doing this, so if you gave me two options, I chose to do them both. Hopefully, you ddin't mind all that much.

In some cases I totally haven't stuck to the 100 word limit, but in others I'm just a wee bit over.





Remus/Sirius for thieving_gypsy


I think I’ll be going with ‘incoherent gushing’ for this one. ;)

I was actually thinking about this the other day, and these two truly are my OTP that trumps all others. I didn’t originally see anything past friendship in the books but I was already truly entranced by the MWPP backstory and already in love with Remus and Sirius when I stumbled along fic and then, well, I was completely losing it over joint Christmas presents.

I don’t know quite what it is, and I think other people have captured it better, but it’s all in their history. They’ve loved and lost (and oh how they’ve lost), found each other again, and then lost again. I mean, it’s fucking tragic, but at the same time, you also see how happy they can make each other, even if you know, and this is the part that always kills you, that it’s going to be temporary.

I have shed so many tears over these two. For me they just work and can make me feel more than any other pairing can, whether that’s laughing my head off or bawling my eyes out.






Kaylee/Simon for elspethsheir


They’re just so cute!

Okay, I need more than that.

I don’t really have a lot of deep and meaningful thoughts for them as a pairing, really. My love for the pairing is mostly rooted in my love for Kaylee as a character. While I really like Simon, and this is my favourite Kaylee pairing; it’s not quite the same. I do think they have an interesting dynamic though, because Kaylee is so unabashed in what she wants, and Simon is … well, he’s Simon.

I don’t quite know if it’s a ‘true love’ thing, because Kaylee is attracted to shiny things and maybe that’s all she sees in Simon, and in the end, when push comes to shove, Simon is going to chose River over her, every time. Not that he won’t agonise over it, (it’s Simon) but he will. I just hope that it never comes down to the point where he has to, but I realise how unlikely that is in this universe.







Mal/Inara for elspethsheir


Hmmm. What to say. My attitude to this pairing is mostly shaped by the almost complete apathy I feel towards Inara. While there are undoubtedly feelings there, you can’t deny that, I don’t know if it would ever really work out if they did actually try and make it work. I just can’t really see Mal with anyone in the long term at all, and I’ve read and liked fics that have argued the contrary, but in the end, I’m just not so sure. This is of course, barring Serentiy. ;)

I quite like their mutual snarking but in the end, I’m just apathetic, tending a little towards dislike.






Remus/Tonks for polymnia

Now, I like Tonks and I love Remus but just not together. Maybe one time, in some deep, angsty way to grieve for Sirius, but only under those circumstances. I like them getting on, I like them as friends, they just don’t work ‘together’ in my head. I don’t know why I thought I saw it in OotP, maybe it was just a fleeting ‘oh fuck no’ thought. It’s not the age difference and it’s not that Tonks hasn’t been through a lot too, because she obviously has, it’s something else.

I’m not as visceral in my dislike as I once was but it still doesn’t work for me.

Recently reading this fic with its gorgeous Remus, Tonks and Sirius interaction (though not in shippy way as far as Tonks is concerned) probably made me a little calmer in regards to this ship and Tonks in general.






Sirius/Snape for polymnia

To put in bluntly: I just don’t see it, at all.

Now admittedly I’m not totally with the whole ‘ I hate you but I secretly love you’ ships, though my arm can be twisted on occasion. Also, I must join the line of people that can’t really handle ‘Snape having sex’ stories, so I don’t really ship Snape at all. I actually don’t dislike him as much as I did, I mean you had to feel sorry for him in OotP because no one deserves that, but him secretly in love with Sirius? Or Sirius in love with him? Nah, I don’t think so.

I think they do share an interesting connection in the sense that Snape, bar his conditions of birth, was probably what the Blacks wanted in a son, and that Sirius had the conditions of birth that Snape may have wished he had but I don’t see any ship there. Envy perhaps, on some small level, and definitely vehement dislike, or perhaps hatred, but not anything more than that.






Jack/Sam for eolivet

Because these two fit together and at first look you wouldn’t quite think that, but they do. I’m not saying it’s all happiness and light, because this is Jack and this is Sam, and that’s not what these guys are all about but I think they do belong together.

Did it start off in bad circumstances? Sure. But, as we have seen evidence of many, many times on the show, there is something more there. The relationship may have started for physical reasons but it didn’t end that way.

It’s just the emotion that gets me with these two. You can see it so clearly on the show (due to a fantastic job by ALP and Poppy) and that’s why I love them so.






Seth/Summer for eolivet

While I definitely like these two, I don’t know of you could call me a die-hard shipper. I’m quite liking the Seth/Alex in this season and I definitely have a soft-spot for Seth/Ryan, but I do like Seth/Summer. Last season they were really adorable and the show made it that you couldn’t quite help ship them, even if it was just a little bit, and I did love their interaction.

This season? I still see it and I still wouldn’t object to them getting back together. But could I deal with it if it doesn’t happen? Yeah, I think I could.




On a couple of those I was a lot calmer than I (or possibly polymnia) thought I'd be. ;)
