I watched these in a specific order last night:

I follow quite a few TV critics on Twitter and I'd seen this episode mentioned along the lines of "OMG this is the episode which will make people really, REALLY hate Newsroom!" And well, it certainly wasn't good, at all really, I didn't find it THAT awful either. I know ... it's a high bar.

Maggie and Jim were cute at times, but then WTF?! Jim did have a right to be pissed but it was a little harsh to send her to the desk and oh Maggie. You need to deal with that and not yell at him in the middle of meetings because ... no. No. Alison Pill, I really do hope you get better writing soon.

I wouldn't go as far to say that I like Don's character, but maybe it's the fact that he's not neurotically crazy and therefore unlike nearly all the other characters on the show, he comes off okay and he has a few good lines. The actor does well too. Sloan's sort of similar.

Epically do not care about Mackenzie and Will, and oh my god would people find quiet offices and not open newsrooms to yell hysterically at each other in? Seriously.

The less said about Will's civilizing mission the better. Just woman you're 'civilizing' there, Will? Fuck you.

And then the ending, which was easily the show's lowest point. Way to be subtle, Aaron. JFC. Kicking off the Red Carpet report, throwing away the tabloid magazine, and I get the point he was trying to make - how could you miss it - and it's not one without merit (although I do have a weakness for gossip magazines myself) but fuck the way it was executed left a bad taste in my mouth. Not to mention the whole 'we're better we didn't call her dead' moment. *sigh* I still don't like the recent past thing.

And you had to play the whole fucking annoying Coldplay song, didn't you? That so did not help. It was even in my head when I woke up this morning. Arrggh.

Good points: Maggie's red dress, Jim's comic nerdery (and oddly Don draping himself over Jim), and I did like a couple of Will's lines. "no because my eyes are connected to my brain." and the hurricanes line.

... okay maybe I did find it a little awful.

I was worried when I saw Greg Berlanti was involved but uh, it was pretty good. I so watched these in the right order. It's soapy sure, but it was enjoyable and had some great lines.

"Bitch with a capital C." I'm surprised they got that in on USA.

Elaine and Susan are both pretty great tbh. They had lots of good lines. "I love the Easter Egg roll." "Somebody blow something ..." and of course, "I will fuck your shit up" in Russian. <3 I also really loved their conversation on the plane as captured in this gif-set.

Bud's portrayal was waaaay over the top though. It was almost hard to watch.

Also, Sebastian Stan. I like you, dude, and I find TJ's story really interesting, but that bathroom scene fell a bit flat. Anytime he hung out with his grandmother was awesome though, and oh look at actual gay sex scene (sort of).

The AV Club review described Elaine's mother as a cross between the Dowager Countess from Downton Abbey and Charlie Skinner from The Newsroom (aka Drunk Sam Waterson) which .... works pretty well tbh.

As soon as I saw Dylan Baker was playing the VP I assumed he was evil. Thanks, typecasting. Not sure he is yet though.

The dogs are called Teddy, Jack and Bobby. <3!

Random: as soon as I heard 'Shining Light' at the start I thought Ash's song must have been a cover, but no Annie Lennox apparently covered their song. Cool.

Trying to watch some more Breaking Bad but not finding it that easy to marathon.

Still have a Suits thing. Someone tell me not to combine Harvey and the NY Rangers into a fic. It's tempting ... very tempting.

In non-TV news:

I didn't get the job I really wanted. They liked me, they thought I'd be a good fit but they had a better candidate. Which sucks, but what can you do? So, back to applying. Have a pre-interview coffee (yeah apparently that's a thing now) and a meeting with a recruitment company tomorrow.

Took advantage of the sun today to take a walk along Oriental Bay and have some gelato. Somedays you're kind of awesome, Wellington.
