I saw Scott Pilgrim today, and it was pretty much as awesome as I was expecting. I knew I was going to like it going in, and well, I did and was left with a strong desire to go home and play Guitar Hero. Which I might give into tomorrow ...the guitar is just sitting there on the other side of the room and no one uses it enough. Sad guitar.
Like I said, I pretty much loved it. It was maybe a little too long and dragged a bit around the twins part, but other than that I loved the stylised elements and the video game feel. I'm sure there were references I didn't get, but the ones I did get were well done.
Wallace was awesome. I want a Wallace! Snarky and hilarious. I was reminded how much I enjoy Kieran Culkin's performances. I need to see Igby Goes Down again.
Michael Cera was well ... Michael Cera, really. The part was pretty much suited perfectly for him. Awkward kid woos girl.
I also really enjoyed the character of Knives Chao and Ellen Wong's performance. I loved the twist with the 'Sword of Self-Respect' and that he apologised to her in end, and her response of 'eh, I'll get over it.' <3
Anna Kendrick = love. She needs to be in many, many things.
Ramona was cool, and I loved her hair and sense of style. I want to dye my hair crazy colours again, but I'm not sure I'll ever have a job where that will be fine. *sigh*
The only performance I was less sold on was that of Brandon Routh, and too a lesser extent Chris Evans, but I think that may have been more the character Chris was playing.
I've only read the first volume of the graphic novel, so I can't speak to the accuracy to the text, but I am keen to read the rest of the series at some point.
The soundtrack was also awesome. I need it. And it included the Stones! I keep forgetting how sinister and innocuous "Under My Thumb" can sound at the same time. It's catchy and then as soon as you listen to the lyrics ... wow.
Good: I can pick up my fixed laptop tomorrow. \o/
Bad: I really have to look for a job more seriously tomorrow. *sigh*
Fringe: 10 hopes for Fringe season 3. I pretty much agree with all of them. Peter needs some development, dudes, and while I can find Peter/Olivia cute (I love the bar scene in 1.10), I think they need to work on it.
I am very excited for the new season though, and these FOX 'Fringe:Just the Facts' videos didn't help. The Massive Dynamic one is particularly good, if only for the fact that Josh says 'opaque behemoth' and I am such a sucker for him being all smart and using big words. *sigh* Seriously. That guy.
Random link: io9's guide to how to get into 20 classic sci-fi shows. Tells you which seasons can be skipped and where to start. Very useful. Though part of me still does want to watch Lost after I bailed at the end of S1. Hmm.
