Finally got around to typing up my thoughts on
Overall, I enjoyed it, though it wasn't "OMG amazing!"
I did see is starting at 8:30pm though and after two hours (when they were on Mars) my mind was wondering and I was getting tired, but the end made up for it.
It was awesome to see scenes from the book realised almost frame by frame on screen, like Dr Manhattan's origin story and the scene on Mars. That was damn impressive, and it was beautifully shot.
I was waiting for the fire scene with Rorschach, but I do see why they made the change. The violence was pretty insane though. I'm really not that squeamish but I was looking away a few times.
I think the ending change was good, to be honest. Because the physic giant squid was always hard for me to wrap my head around in the book and would have been very WTF in the movie. Although, a little unfair on Dr Manhattan, but I guess that is always an overtone in the book.
Soundtrack wise, it was okay. "Hallelujah" is so overused though, there needs to be a moratorium on using that for a while. The My Chem song is kinda growing on me though.
Jackie Earle Haley was amazing as Rorschach. I'm really impressed how well they managed to capture him, because he's pretty much exactly like he is in the book.
I also really liked Billy Crudup's Dr Manhattan, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
I didn't think Malin Ackerman was as bad as everyone seems to think.
Now listening to Kevin Smith basically slash Nite Owl and Rorschach. But then Kevin Smith always brings up homo-eroticism when he can. And making me feel better that no one really knows how the squid kills those people, and everyone has their own interpretation.
Also, while I'm linking Watchmen spoiler-y things. The Onion A.V Club (which I've been reading more and enjoying a lot since I started following in on Twitter) did a comprehensive Book vs Film post on it, which was cool to read.
Also two awesome trailers I've seen:
Star Trek. I haven't been that excited about this movie (J.J always gives me pause) but this was a pretty exciting trailer.
Public Enemeies Mmm, Johnny Depp robs banks, and is hot while doing so.
Just managing to keep away from the spoiler-y BSG posts. *looks imploringly at Transmission*
