What are cows?
May. 1st, 2005 11:34 pmSo tired. 8:30 till 5:15 at work today and I start tomorrow at 7:30. Joy.
However, I did see manage to fit in something fannish today. I saw
Disclaimer: I’ve only read up to So Long and Thanks For All the Fish and I was really tired when I saw this.
There were some bits that rocked. The musical number to open it was hilarious and the Improbability Drive was handled very well. Bowl of Petunias, hehe. Stephen Fry and Alan Rickman were as always, wonderful and the Hitchhikers Guide screens were very cool.
However, when I read the books, I for some reason really liked Zaphod and his and Trillian’s rather dysfunctional relationship and tonight, Zaphod and Trilllian annoyed me. I didn’t like Sam Rockwell’s and Zoey Deschanel (sp?)’s portrayals. I thought Arthur and Ford were fine but Zaphod and Trillian were not really like I saw them in my mind and that ruined it a little bit. I realise they had to simplify it and everything and it was easier to go with Arthur/Trillian but eh, it just bugged me.
But saying that, one thing I will say, I did like how Trillian used the Point of View gun on Zpahod to make him understand. That was a bit of emotional weight that I wasn’t expecting in this movie. Also, the way they did the factory floor rocked. Bill Nighy was very good as Slartibartfast.
As far as I know, the bit with John Malkovich, Zaphod giving him his head, Trillian’s capture and the Point of View gun weren’t in the first four books. Is that just my bad memory? Or were these elements from Mostly Harmless they added? Or did they create new moments?
It wasn’t a bad movie; parts of it were very good, but I didn’t like it as much as I thought I would. It very well could have been my mood, but I don’t think that was all of it.
Anyway, should sleep.
