Fringe Season 2 finished. \o/

How much did I sleep, you say? Not a lot. Do I regret it? Only a tiny bit.

So, this show seems to have a pattern, and that is ease your way into the season then OH MY GOD WHAT IS WITH THIS AWESOME. Okay, I exaggerate a little, but I was a little blah about it at the start but then about 208 with "August" it totally stepped up a gear, and "Grey Matters" was great, and then from "Jacksonville" through "Peter," and oh god, "The Man From the Other Side" was just wonderful, wonderful television. If there is a divide in fandom about it, I personally really enjoyed "Brown Betty" and I did really like the finale and its lead up, but I thought it didn't quite hit the highs of the Peter finding out storyline.

Now, small disclaimer. I wasn't just spoiled for the end of S1 but also for what happened to Peter and I pretty easily figured out when it was going to happen in the season. At first, I was annoyed at myself about it and I think it harshed by enjoyment of the show a little bit at the start, but as I went through, it really didn't. In fact, since I knew approximately when it was going to go down, I saw all the little hints and it was sort of like watching a car crash. I knew it was going to be bad and oh, boy, it was.

John Noble, I hope you were damn close to an Emmy nomination. You rock, on multiple levels, and the rest of the cast are no slouches either.

So, um, yeah, I liked it. Quite a lot. ;)

Characters:

I loved Olivia this season. Very few Mary-Sue moments and just, love.

Peter is a slightly different story. If last season was Olivia's season, this was really his. He took center stage a lot more, he chose to be there, rather just biding his time, and since Charlie wasn't around, he ended up running around with Olivia a lot more. I enjoyed it, don't get me wrong and I thought Josh Jackson was pretty awesome, and his interaction with John Noble is so, so good, but you really did see Peter's selfish and arrogant side come out to play in places. I'm all for showing shades of grey with characters, but I just found myself a little less enamoured with him as a result. He manages to be a little less sympathetic than Walter, who has done so much that's wrong, but you don't really hold it against him. Much. It's interesting.

However, reading back over my notes. (Yes, there are notes, or more squeeful ramblings in a .txt file). He did have some adorable moments. Especially before he found out. With the pie, and the fishing and the fond smiles (oh the smiles, they don't let JJ smile enough) when he heard about Walter counting cars, and the "There's more than one way to roast a reindeer" ... and then at the end with "Location:Mars." I don't know, I guess. I'm conflicted.

He had every right to act as he did in the end though. Fuck. He's been lied to for so much of his life. And if he hadn't taken off that would have been really bad writing. Of course he'd run, and of course he'd come back and still be pissed. Both of his "fathers" lied to him, and our Walter at least didn't try to end a universe with him. Wow, what a choice. He needs a hug. Seriously. I liked how they left it with him and Walter. "You saved my life in two different universes ... that's gotta count for something." Hope!

Right, I am clearly just rambling to work through my Peter thoughts. I see a character piece forming. Oh dear.

And while talking shades of grey, that is one small problem I still have with Olivia's character. We haven't seen her shades of grey yet. Only a matter of time, I guess.

Astrid = <3! I adore her. So much.

Random Episode points

The "Dad" in "The Man From the Other Side" ruined me. Ripped my heart out. You knew what was coming at the end of the ep and just, owww. Poor Walter. Poor Peter. I watched it again just before I started typing this, and it is still so hard to watch. Along with, "You are not my father" and the pie! The pie!

Fake!Charlie. Noooo! Sort of knew this was coming (damn Wikipedia), and I thought he did get a bit gipped out of a goodbye scene. Or a moment where we felt like he really mattered on the show. It wasn't until Alt!Charlie turned up that we really got a feeling of how much Olivia (and to a lesser extent Peter) missed him.

Sheriff Matthis in "Northwest Passage" was so good. It wasn't my favourite ep, but she was such a good guest star, and I thought her interaction with Peter was awesome.

Olivia bringing the geek with her knowledge of "Dawn of the Dead" movies = hot.

Also, I am all for more Peter speaking foreign languages. Yes.

I also really liked Sam. I hope there is more to him that meets the eye.

Astrid and Walter were wearing actual tin hats!

80's theme and text for the flashback episode!! That was genius.

Walternate. Hee. I wonder if they called him Walter just so they could use that.

This show can nearly out-gross Bones in places. *winces*

Lance Reddick's singing voice = amazing.

That was a total Iron Man homage going on there in "Brown Betty" with Peter and Olivia. It worked though.

Ella's ending = <3 literally.

The cow had spots!

Finale

I think there should have been a showdown between Walternate and Peter or something. It was all, "He's going to end the world with you" and then Peter was gone. There needed to be some sort of closure, but then I'm going to guess they'll see each other again.

Alt!Elizabeth did sort of rock though. I felt for her so much losing her son. Twice now.

So changing Olivias ... interesting. For some reason I did not see the typewriter thing coming. Peter will figure it out in end, I guess, but I think that will probably be after he sleeps with her ... maybe?

Ships

I didn't mind the Peter/Olivia at the end. Interesting that she was the one to initiate it, but they'd been laying the groundwork for ages. Peter seemed to still be a bit shell-shocked by the Walternate thing to really take it all in though. I'm not a crazy 'shipper about them, but I'm willing to be convinced. ;)

Outside factots

Fox! What was with the S1 episode in the middle. You just can't pull this shit. Did Firefly teach you ... never mind. It wasn't a bad ep actually. I missed Peter's constant snarking and Lisa was cute at the end with, 'Make your move, I turn 18 in a few months.' Heh.

I do wonder if they set more things in Alt!Earth whether Josh is going to get a little screwed in the screen-time department as everyone else has two characters to play. That would make me sad.

Shallowness section:

Josh Jackson, still hot. Shocking, I know. ;) The waistcoat in "Brown Betty" especially. Loved it.

Blond Anna Torv > Brunette Anna Torv. That is not the best wig.

And she looked so, so good in "Brown Bettty" as the P.I. Guh.

So, yeah.

Now I have Mad Men to watch. And True Blood.

A fangirl's work is never done. ;)

And I now have Peter/Josh icons. Yes. I needed them. *nods*
