Idiocy and Ocean's Twelve
Jan. 3rd, 2005 02:38 amThe Yuletide reveal happened overnight and I can now say I wrote The Things Unsaid (Ocean's Eleven. R. Danny/Rusty) for
rokeon.
However, from the 'Tali is an idiot' files, the summary on said fic at the archive currently says, 'Danny was standing beside hims again.' I just realised today.
*headdesk*
Sometimes, I just want to hit myself over the head with something very hard.
Anyway, moving on but keeping with the fandom.
First off, it wasn't as good as the first one. The first one had this sort of undefinable flow to it. It just seemed to glide along. O12 really didn't. Not that it was horrible, it was still a good movie, but I kinda hoped for a bit better.
Anyway, on to the random thoughts:
I must admit the bit with Linus's mother was hilarious.
The Julia Roberts thing I saw I mile off and even if I hadn't, I would venture to say, still wouldn't have been nearly as funny as whoever came up with it thought it would be. Maybe it was just the fact it was Julia Roberts. ;)
I never actually thought I openly disliked Julia Roberts's acting, but now, I think I do. She bugs me.
Vincent Cassell did a great job.
The final reveal, when we finally see how they did it, was pretty clever. I liked that they'd actually already won before they started the 'competition.' Trust Danny and Rusty's connections to come through in the end. The bit with Le Mark being Isabel's father was predictible but it worked.
Rusty/Isabel was okay. I didn't feel totally convinced but then it was miles better than Danny/Tess, which still totally doesn't work for me. My love for Danny/Rusty aside George Clooney and Julia Roberts have zero chemisty and just, yeah, no. Don't buy it. Brad Pitt and Catherine Zeta Jones were a lot better.
Talking of the Danny/Rusty. There wasn't nearly enough of it! Putting aside that this is coming from someone who considers herself a shipper, I just didn't feel their connection nearly as much as in the first movie. There were little moments -the bit with the red wine and watching Happy Days was great- and there were a couple of others, like them on the biridge, but all in all, I felt it was lacking, which saddened me.
I saw Rusty/Linus though. Oh, Linus, trying to be like the big boys. It was kind of endearing.
Catherine Zeta Jones was actually quite good in this, but no, Catherine, I still have not forgiven you for Entrapment. That movie was a crime.
Still really like George Clooney. I can't help it.
Also still really like Don Cheadle and Matt Damon.
The return of Topher was cool. I really like Topher Grace. I think he's cool and just a little bit cute.
Shallow comment I: Brad's hair was just wrong. The crew cut is just not a good look on him.
Shallow comment II: The way they did the titles showing the time frame and where they were bugged me. They looked messy but then that's probably the look they were going for.
So yeah, while I enjoyed it, it also fell a little flat, which was disappointing. However, being the completist I am, and liking the characters as much as I do, I'll probably buy the DVD.
